Yes, I'm still going to talk about Powkiddy X18. It's because I'm still messing around with it. Well, yesterday night, I took out my retro ROMs MicroSD card from my Android tablet and put it into my X18. I forget how big the storage was until I realized it contains all my ROMs, music, pictures, etc.

Since I seldom use my tablet anymore, might as well used it on my X18. Anyway, retro gaming or any kind of gaming is much more fun with a physical controller. And, the X18 comes integrated with one. With a couple of thousands of retro games available, this is becoming my ultimate retro gaming system.

The funny thing is that the form factor design is obviously copied from the Nintendo 3DS. I make a quick physical comparison on my unboxing video. You can watch it here. I wish they copied everything though. Like a second screen, a stylus pen, and the camera.

Back in the day, I wish they'll improve on the NN3DS XL. Especially, the graphics. I remember watching youtube on it but now you can't. I still have it so, not being able to watch youtube kinda sucks. I can't quite remember if you can browse the Internet or do social media back then.

Now, I have the Nintendo Switch lite but as much as I love it, I'll always feel something missing. Yes, that's the part the Powkiddy X18 or the GPD XD Plus can fill it up. The difference with the X18 is that it uses Android O.S. which is like a lighter version of Microsoft Windows.

I don't really game all the time. I check my emails, read up on news, do research on Google, messaging, voice messages, video call my family and friends with Whatsapp, watch youtube, listen to music and social media. You know, the everyday thingy.

Yes, I know. I already do all that on my Samsung Note 10+. In fact, I even have my Blackberry used as my second phone. Now, I consider the Powkiddy X18 as my main device to do all that. I even use it occasionally to Whatsapp my family and close friend.  

That's why I wish the X18 has a camera like mine 3ds xl. I would have used it for video calls. Imagine, if the X18 also has a second screen, you can use it for a touchscreen keyboard or touchpad. That big empty space in between the controller is such a waste of space.

If you want something light and portable for entertainment and social media, you don't need Microsoft Windows software. I used to hate the early version of Android, now, you can do everything as if you're using a Windows PC. The best part that the mobile phone and a laptop don't have is the integrated controller.

The integrated controller is what makes the difference. That's why I love gaming on my Nintendo Switch and NN3DS XL. Even if you don't like the integrated controller you can buy an external controller. But, the important thing is that there's an integrated one for on-the-go gaming!

The Powdiddy X18 and the GPD XD Plus though also lets you use it as a mini laptop. It's what I had always wanted to do on my NN3DS XL years ago. And, even on my Switch lite now. But, if they put a second touchscreen/touchpad and a camera for video-calling, it'll be 90% perfect!

The Powkiddy X18 is definitely not as powerful as my Samsung Note 10+. Its specs are CPU: MTK 8163, quad-core A53 64-bit processor 1.3GHz. Memory: 2GDDR3+16GB EMMC. It also has a 5000mAh battery. Which last me a couple of hours of usage.

Games like PUBG and Call of Duty mobile don't run that well on the X18. Although, I haven't tried it out again after I've installed clean Rom yesterday. When I was using the stock ROM, pubg mobile downloaded from Apkpure.com was really bad. So bad, I deleted it.

The good thing is that my favorite Zombie fps shooter games by Madfingers run smoothly on it. I don't really like many Android games, mostly because they don't have controller support. But, there are definitely some gems. A game like Shadow Fight 3.

I actually wonder if I can play the game as when I was using the stock Rom, I couldn't play without the Google play service. After I finally managed to install the clean ROM and the touchscreen works (it didn't work at first) I can play it now.

The Shadow Fight 3 can definitely be played with nice graphics and smooth gameplay. But, it loads pretty slow in between duels. And, the ability to remaps the buttons and play with the integrated controller is definitely a plus. Unlike the hassle, if you want to play with a controller on the mobile.

My favorite rally racing game, Rush Rally 3 also plays smoothly on the Powkiddy X18. I also love playing Need for Speed Most Wanted on it. You can play Asphalt 9 Legends but the lowered graphics are really disappointing. That's why I think, the GPD XD Plus, specs-wise, is much better.

The difference in specs also means, there will be a difference in price. Obviously, I can't compare it to my Samsung Note 10+ as it's almost 3-4 times the price. That's probably why the manufacturer had to consider if they want to add or improve anything on it.

Hopefully, when parts become cheaper, I'll like them to improve on the CPU and the GPU. At least good enough to play PUBG or Call of Duty mobile smoothly. They're pretty much the benchmarks of mobile gaming. A better joystick will be good too as the current one 'head' feels kinda flat.

Also, maybe add a camera or create a 4G or 5G version as most Android games need you to have internet access. Part of the reason why I hate Android games. I want the camera because I found out you can use Whatsapp and send voice messages or voice calls on the X18!

Imagine, using this to video calls your friend. I've actually been using it to message my family and friends. Even without the sim card (no sim card slot), you can connect to your Whatsapp account if you have an extra mobile account number. Pretty cool!

You can even use it as a mini Android laptop. You can check your emails, do social media, use it for taking notes in school, or whatever. I actually bought it because I want to use the Termux app. I can install Ubuntu 20 and use its terminal. Want a bigger screen? Use HDMI to link to your Tv or monitor.

The Powkiddy X18 at a cheap price is definitely one of the best Android devices with an integrated controller. A powerhouse for game and entertainment/social media console. Get it if you haven't!

Finally! I managed to flash a new clean ROM firmware to my Powkiddy X18, and the touchscreen works too. All this after a few days of reading, downloading, re-flashing, and swearing XXX. All thanks to Taki Udon, ToToy Video PH, and the community

Frankly, I had to watch a couple of videos and read the information on the website to finally understand what the heck I was doing. There was a certain part that I didn't understand, rooting, which I had never done before, and also the flashing tool.

The good thing about being late to the party is that, by the time everyone has already cleared the kinks out and all you have to do is follow the line or tips. Of course, you need to understand what is actually going on, or you'll follow blindly into the pit!

For one thing, I didn't know how to root my Android system. Since I've never done it. It's actually much easier now. For this case, you need the Magisk app. It's not available on the Google Play Store. But you can download the link2SD app there. Which needs root grant access.

You need to watch the Taki Udon and ToToy video guide first if you want to learn to flash the firmware that also comes with the Google Play Store. The Powkiddy X18 original stock doesn't come with it. That's why people want to flash a clean rom.

The good news is that there are links to the flashing tool, the firmware, and the rooted boot.img file in their description. The rooted boot.img link on ToToy is important, contributed by his viewer, because some people have a problem with the touchscreen that doesn't work after flashing.

The procedure is to download the software zip file from the Taki Udon channel, extract it, and open the flashing tool. You need to find the firmware and add it to the flashing tool. After that, you need to click the boot directory and add the rooted boot image that you downloaded from the Totoy channel. 

I skipped the part where you backed up your X18 stock rom. Too cumbersome for me. But, of course, it's advisable to do it. If anything goes wrong, at least you can flash back to the original stock. In any case, I found a website that has the original X18 stock rom. So, if you fck it up. Just go here. Lol.

Make sure you change to the Firmware upgrade and click 'Download'. Only then, you plug in your X18, which should have been switched off. For some reason, my computer and older laptop couldn't recognize my X18. Even though I have installed the Mediatek USB driver.

When I finally decide to use my latest HP laptop, the flashing tool finally recognizes my X18 and flashes the firmware. Now, my Powkiddy X18 runs Android OS 7.0 with the Google Play Store. And, thanks to the rooted boot img, my touchscreen works too.

By the way, since you use the rooted boot image file, your Powkiddy X18 will already be rooted once you boot into the system. So, when you want to use the link2SD (refer to Taki's video), it'll automatically try to open and install Magisk. It will also automatically ask you to grant root access.

Just agree to the request. You'll have to refer to the Taki video on this. I'll have to re-download all the games and apps that were lost during the flashing. I've been playing with the X18 before flashing the clean rom, and while the touchscreen didn't work.

Now that the touchscreen works again, I can start downloading again and don't have to think about flashing. It's time to enjoy the X18 for Android and Retro gaming and even use it as a mini Android laptop. The flexibility is what attracts me to it.

Yesterday, I decided to try out Microsoft Launcher app on my Powkiddy X18, Android portable game console. Also, install Microsoft News and even the OneNote app. The outlook app didn't work though. I was looking forward to using it to check my emails on the X18.

Microsoft launcher makes my X18 look a little bit nicer and more organized. The original launcher kinda ugly and you have to go through several pages just to find your app or games. With Microsoft launcher, everything is in one place.

I basically set it up like my Samsung Android phone. I don't like multiple windows or sections. I prefer the apps and games all in one window. But, I put the common apps I use like Whatsapp, Yahoo Mail, and social media like Facebook and Twitter on the main page.

I don't put everything on the main page like the Apple iPhone. It looks so cluttery. I don't see the point of having your main page fill with so many icons and many windows when it's the same thing as when you swipe up to look at all the apps.

Anyway, I also discover that since the Powkiddy X18 is using android, you can also download and use Whatsapp. The problem is of course that the X18 is NOT a phone. It doesn't have a sim card slot and also a camera. Without a camera, you can't do video calls. Which is a bummer.

I wonder though if I can add an external camera to it. I have never heard of anyone doing that. I assume I'll need software to recognize it. Of course, normal Android tablets or phones have them. I remember my Razer gaming phone front camera having constant software problems back then.

When I'm at home, I use Whatsapp on my computer. I think, now you can even use WhatsApp to video call on your computer if you have a camera. I distinctly remember you can't do that before. I always wonder why. But, last week, I saw the icon and try video-call my nephew and it works!

Since I have the Powkiddy X18, I use my 2nd phone number to activate the Whatsapp on it. So, now I can exclusively use it to msg my family and close friend. The problem is, it's not a phone and I can't add or save their numbers to the X18.

I end up having to msg my family on my main phone to Whatsapp me on my 2nd phone number. Once, they msg me, I can then use the X18 to contact them. But, like I've said, I can't save their contact numbers on the X18. I'm not sure if I revert back the account to the phone if the records are still there.

Surprisingly, I can send voice msg and even call them up on my X18. I didn't know there's a mic. In fact, you can't see it. I think it's inside the speaker. Or, can you use the speaker as a mic? Lol. Well, now I can also use the gaming console as a wifi phone. Pretty cool!

Too bad, there's no camera. It'll be fun to video-call people using the X18. The X18 would have been a complete system for gaming and communication system. Although, with its controller, it'll be kind of weird. The GPD and the Powkiddy X18 are definitely great products. They'll just need to add a few more features to make it an all-rounder.

Is GPD WIN MAX the ultimate portable mini gaming laptop? To me, the answer is, Yes!

Although, I think they could make it better. Don't get me wrong, it's actually already pretty good. I've seen videos of people playing Doom and Witcher on this 8-inch mini laptop. I would really love to download some of my favorite STEAM games like DIRT 2 and play them on this laptop.

Of course, the added bonus is that you have an integrated controller on the laptop itself. I've heard that the control is pretty good with rumble effects and clicky thumbstick. Just hope that the controller is easy to repair when it's faulty.

There's a video showing some kind of problem with the keyboard. Don't really understand what the problem is but I hope they solve it. The keyboard is part of the reason I like it more than the GPD WIN 2. Yes, you definitely buy the GPD WIN MAX for gaming but it's also a laptop with good specs.

Talking about specs, that's another area I hope they improve or change on. Not sure why they haven't tried AMD Ryzen and Radeon Vega integrated mobile graphics. There's a product called AYA NEO that's built with AMD Ryzen 5 and Vega 5.

Frankly, I don't want another Nintendo Switch clone product. That's what AYA NEO or the GPD WIN 3 is. I'll rather stick with my favorite Nintendo Switch lite. Which I use for gaming and watching youtube videos at night.

One day, hopefully, they'll have the kind of specs you find in a gaming laptop like the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. Is it possible? Why not. The technology is getting better and faster. But, they have to solve the heating problem.

Asus says they have the new liquid metal cooling system. So, that might also work for the GPD WIN MAX type of design. An RBG keyboard and LED lighted controller would also be cool. Especially, if you play in the dark.

I was thinking if I should just get the One Netbook One Mix 3 Pro which has a 'normal' laptop design but, the GPD WIN MAX integrated controller is actually kinda useful if you don't want the hassle of having to bring along a controller when you're out and about. 

Imagine if you're on a train or a bus, wouldn't it much easier to pop out the GPD WIN MAX and start playing? You don't have to put the laptop on your lap, pair it and hold a controller to play. There are some situations having an integrated controller would be pretty nifty.

Last but not least, I hope they change the screen to a rotating type. So that I can use it as a tablet. Will be better to watch movies or youtube. If you the type to write notes or an artist, the ability will be a plus. And another thing is where's the webcam? 

People nowadays do a lot of video-calling and even live streaming. So, instead of having to buy a webcam, just add an integrated front camera. Definitely, if the GPD WIN MAX has all of these, it'll definitely be my new ultimate portable mini gaming laptop!

I remember around 14 years ago, I bought my first 7-inch mini laptop. It was the Eee Pc from Asus. I ordered it straight from Taiwan. I think, it took around 2 weeks or probably a month to finally delivered to me. It doesn't exist anymore. They should make one with the latest specs.

I forget where I first heard about it but it was pretty popular back then. It came with a version of the Linux distro. But, I think I've tried installed Ubuntu and even Windows 7. It was a low-end laptop but it was fun to try out stuff on it.

Nowadays, there are many cool and powerful 7-inch mini laptops. Which already comes with the latest Microsoft Windows 10. Of course, to run Windows 10 and other software smoothly without lags, you'll need decent specs. The problem is the 7-inch size is much smaller than any other laptops.

The good thing is that, with new tech and design, you can actually make a 7-inch laptop that can run as well as any other bigger laptop out there. I've talked about how light and small the laptop motherboard are today. I discovered that on this HP laptop which I'm using right now when I opened it up.

There is one 7-inch gaming laptop that can surprisingly play many triple-A games. The CPU and GPU aren't really like the latest high-end gaming laptop but it's still amazing. That will really be my ultimate 7-inch gaming laptop. And, I want it!

The 7-inch gaming laptop I'm talking about is the One Netbook OneGx1. They have a new version with a cool black color. It has 16GB Ram and 1TB of storage. How bout that for a 7-inch laptop? And, it supposedly comes with an Intel Iris Xe graphics card. You can read about the card at PC Mag here.

For your info, the controller doesn't come with the laptop. It's sold separately. Kinda weird they decide to sell it that way. But, I was thinking of maybe using the tablet retractable Bluetooth controller and use it on the laptop. It's not just for this laptop, you can use it for other 7-inch laptops too.

I just found out about the One Netbook One Mix 3 pro and I think this is definitely one of the best 7-inch mini laptops. Just look at the Intel 10th i7-10510Y CPU, with 16G Ram and 512GB SSD. It also has Intel UHD graphics. Wish, it has the latest Intel Iris XE integrated graphics instead. 

The ram is also actually a DDR3 and not DDR4. But, the specs are definitely better than my 10 inches 3-year-old N4200 Intel Celeron laptop. It likes to freeze for a few secs once in awhile. I'll have to wait before able to use the mouse again. I upgraded from 4GB of ram to 8GB.

I think having a 16GB of ram will make things a little smoother. The HP laptop that I'm using right now only has an 8GB DDR4 ram. For basic usage, it doesn't have any problem. But, sometimes things do get a little weird. I'll be upgrading to 16GB once I have the dough.

The best thing about a 7-inch laptop is the portability. If you fit in a retractable Bluetooth controller, it'll become just like a Nintendo Switch. The Switch is probably the best portable gaming console right now. Simply because you can play triple-A games and of course Nintendo games and other indies.

The mobile phone can also become a laptop substitute. If only someone creates a keyboard case for mobile. And, I don't mean those folding keyboard cases. I want a good keyboard case that fits your phone permanently. I can just open and fold it if I want to use as a phone and open it half-way if I want to use it as a laptop. For me, I prefer typing on a real keyboard rather than a touchscreen keyboard.

When at home I like linking my phone to my computer. If I'm communicating on Whatsapp, it's much easier and faster typing on a real keyboard. Also, fewer mistakes. Of course, if you're walking while outside, I can just use the touchscreen. But, if I can sit down somewhere, typing is much better.

If I have a 7-inch laptop, I can link my mobile phone to it and use the keyboard to reply to Whatsapp or other messaging apps. If you have the latest Samsung Phone, you can also turn your laptop into an Android device with Samsung Dex. So, it's not a bad idea to have a small portable laptop for work and play. Maybe, one day, I'll find my ultimate 7-inch mini gaming laptop!

So, the Nintendo Mario Kart live is available now. You can get it here (Amazon). Like, I've said in several posts ago, I've wanted this type of thing from Nintendo. It already has a screen and controllers. Would be fun to be able to connect toys to it.

Although, I was wishing being able to pair it with my Raspberry pi smart robot. I'm not sure if you can actually already do that after hacking your Switch. You can install Linux distro like Debian and use python to control your raspberry pi.

I've always thought, the Nintendo Switch can be more than just a portable gaming console. It's great for education and being able to connect to a Raspberry pi smart robot will be way cool. Of course, Nintendo prefers making their own toys for people to buy.

I won't be surprised if Mario Drone is out next. Would be another added bonus to fly around your drone and being able to record views or like Mario Kart, racing with your friends. They can even do race events for both of them.

The difference between a Mario Kart live and Raspberry pi is that you can also use the Pi as a computer. You can buy parts for your smart robot or drone and learn to code with python. You can also learn coding with SmileBASIC 4 and FUZE 4 on your Nintendo Switch too.

Someone out there already able to transfer files using smilebasic 4 and creating an emulator. I was already wondering if you can use smilebasic 4 to somehow connect to your raspberry pi or Arduino. That would be way cool!

I was also hoping the 'makers' would come out with something that can be connected and use together with the Nintendo Switch. The Mario Kart live already proves that the Nintendo Switch can be used more than just a gaming console.

I'm surprised that they (the makers) didn't think of this. Or probably did. I wouldn't know what's going on behind closed doors. I'm just saying, or keep saying, how great the Switch is. I can imagine, someone hacking (a driverless car) using their Nintendo Switch and control it with the controllers. I'm not saying people should do it though.

I think what's so great about the Nintendo Switch is the design. Make for portability. Even then, to me, the Switch lite is more portable and flexible because it's around an inch smaller. Everyone has their own preferences of which one is better of course.

If you want to make a Windows 10, portable gaming console, follow this same design. You can even make a raspberry pi with a Linux distro portable computer. There are already many mobile phone Bluetooth controller that you can just fix on it.

You might want to check out the windows 10, portable gaming console above. Which also comes with a controller. A little pricey. But, I hope, it'll become more powerful in the future. Maybe, using AMD Ryzen CPU & GPU.

The design isn't that bad, but the controller a little weird. I also don't like the mini laptop butt coming out at the back but that's for the cooling system. I like how the ram and storage can be much bigger. With STEAM installed, you can game and use it like any other normal computer.

In the future, portability is King!

Ok, maybe, when the computer is in-plant in you, portability will become another matter.

The portability is what really entices me to the product. Granted, there are definitely more powerful laptops with much bigger screen sizes. But, size isn't everything, right? It's also not a powerful gaming laptop but with 615 HD graphics, it's not a slouch either.

Sure, it does have its, limitation. That's why it depends on why you'll want to get this. For me, it's definitely the size although, it's actually much bigger than a 7-inch mini laptop. Like, I've said, I'm interested in using it for self-study.
