I love playing around with SmileBASIC 4 (Nintendo eShop). It's a great software to learn to code on the go. It's available for the Nintendo Switch. You can dock your Switch like a desktop computer and code away. The good thing is that it has mouse & keyboard support.

I didn't really know that there was a Smilebasic NDS (Nintendo eShop) version until much later. I think because it's only released in Japan and Europe or Australia. Although I already have a Nintendo Switch or rather Switch lite version. Sometimes, I felt like it'll be cool if I can play it on my computer.

Yesterday, I decided to look into my collections of NDS Roms to see if I actually downloaded the software before. Nope. As usual, Google is your friend. So, I did a quick search and actually found a website that has the Smilebasic for NDS.

I thought the rom will automatically work with Retroarch. Apparently, you need to download the Citra NDS emulator. You also need to decrypt the software before able to play it. I'm not sure if I can share it, that's why I'm not linking directly. You can easily find more information via Google search.

I tried it out on my computer and was really excited to play an NDS version of smilebasic. The NDS version is actually a little different than the latest SmileBASIC 4. I've noticed it when I was searching around to learn how to code on my Switch lite.

It's a little funny to me that I learned to code on SmileBASIC 4 before on the NDS version. Which is more updated. But, in spite of that, I still managed to get used to the latter version. That's when I thought, wouldn't it be cool if I can play it on the go on my Samsung Note plus?

I did a quick search on the Google play store and found an Android version of the Citra NDS emulator. Download it, find my smilebasic 3ds file on my phone and load it. The software load pretty quickly without any problem. You can imagine how ecstatic I was that it actually works.

I was already wondering if I can use my Note 10+ S Pen with the smilebasic software. It'll be just like playing on my 3DS. If you're thinking of course it'll work, not really. There are some or mostly retro NDS games that don't work with an S Pen. I've tried it. Although, now I'll want to test it again.



Nintendo Switch Lite - Zacian and Zamazenta Edition, Gray - UK Version

Well, I spend the night playing with the smilebasic 3ds and also checking out what the Citra NDS emulator features are. I think it's still in beta mode. You can view the smilebasic horizontally or vertically. You can hide the on-screen controller inlay, resize it or change the layout. 

One thing though, unlike SmileBASIC4, you can't use it with a mouse and keyboard. I haven't tried out any other NDS games on it. Can't seem to find my MicroSD card location. I discovered just now that the emulator eats a lot of my resources. My device assistant pop up and advice me to kill it. 



Nintendo New 2DS XL - Black + Turquoise

I thought that I've closed the program after playing with it. Seems like as long as you don't close it, it'll run and eat up your phone resources without you knowing it. Maybe, that's why the smilebasic software suddenly went blank on me at one time.

I'm still not sure why the smilebasic 3ds won't open in Retroarch. The Citra emulator is available on the PC version but I can't find it on the android version. I also tried using a different NDS emulator but they don't work. Seems like it only works with Citra.

For now, I'm just happy that I can play around with smilebasic for 3ds on my Note 10+. It's also a plus that I can use my S Pen with it. Since I've played around with SmileBASIC4 on my Switch lite, I won't have a problem with the slight differences. If only there's a smilebasic for Android gaming!

So, the Nintendo Mario Kart live is available now. You can get it here (Amazon). Like, I've said in several posts ago, I've wanted this type of thing from Nintendo. It already has a screen and controllers. Would be fun to be able to connect toys to it.

Although, I was wishing being able to pair it with my Raspberry pi smart robot. I'm not sure if you can actually already do that after hacking your Switch. You can install Linux distro like Debian and use python to control your raspberry pi.

I've always thought, the Nintendo Switch can be more than just a portable gaming console. It's great for education and being able to connect to a Raspberry pi smart robot will be way cool. Of course, Nintendo prefers making their own toys for people to buy.

I won't be surprised if Mario Drone is out next. Would be another added bonus to fly around your drone and being able to record views or like Mario Kart, racing with your friends. They can even do race events for both of them.

The difference between a Mario Kart live and Raspberry pi is that you can also use the Pi as a computer. You can buy parts for your smart robot or drone and learn to code with python. You can also learn coding with SmileBASIC 4 and FUZE 4 on your Nintendo Switch too.

Someone out there already able to transfer files using smilebasic 4 and creating an emulator. I was already wondering if you can use smilebasic 4 to somehow connect to your raspberry pi or Arduino. That would be way cool!

I was also hoping the 'makers' would come out with something that can be connected and use together with the Nintendo Switch. The Mario Kart live already proves that the Nintendo Switch can be used more than just a gaming console.

I'm surprised that they (the makers) didn't think of this. Or probably did. I wouldn't know what's going on behind closed doors. I'm just saying, or keep saying, how great the Switch is. I can imagine, someone hacking (a driverless car) using their Nintendo Switch and control it with the controllers. I'm not saying people should do it though.

I think what's so great about the Nintendo Switch is the design. Make for portability. Even then, to me, the Switch lite is more portable and flexible because it's around an inch smaller. Everyone has their own preferences of which one is better of course.

If you want to make a Windows 10, portable gaming console, follow this same design. You can even make a raspberry pi with a Linux distro portable computer. There are already many mobile phone Bluetooth controller that you can just fix on it.

You might want to check out the windows 10, portable gaming console above. Which also comes with a controller. A little pricey. But, I hope, it'll become more powerful in the future. Maybe, using AMD Ryzen CPU & GPU.

The design isn't that bad, but the controller a little weird. I also don't like the mini laptop butt coming out at the back but that's for the cooling system. I like how the ram and storage can be much bigger. With STEAM installed, you can game and use it like any other normal computer.

In the future, portability is King!

Ok, maybe, when the computer is in-plant in you, portability will become another matter.

So, I just got myself a brand new laptop. If you have been reading my last few posts, you'll know about it. It's not really a gaming laptop per se, but, it can play games. It's got an AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and a Radeon X Vega 10 integrated graphics.

I can play Diablo III, sets on high but games like Dirt 4 only on mediums. It's pretty big with a 15.6-inch FHD screen. Watching youtube videos and movies will be great on it. I also like the speaker which is surprisingly good for listening to Spotify.

One thing though, at night before I sleep, I will always turn to my Nintendo Switch lite. Even, when I had the original Switch, I'll use it to watch youtube videos but I'm doing it more with the lite because it's much lighter and portable.

Of course, I can also do that with my laptop. But, it's kinda a hassle. You don't usually turn off your Switch lite, They're always on. It'll be sleeping and if you want to use it, just press the 'home' button 3 times to wake it up.

I don't know about you but, I will roll around my bed when watching youtube or playing games on my Switch lite. You can't do that if you're using your laptop. Also, if you put your laptop on the bed, it'll make your bed hot. The circulation won't also be good since the bottom part is blocked.

Sometime, I'll put my Switch lite against my pillow. You can't comments or reply when watching youtube. You can do that if you're on your laptop. One thing I like to do is playing with the coding on my switch lite with SmileBASIC 4 when I feel like it.

Again, it's a hassle to turn on my laptop whenever I feel like testing out some coding. I did try putting my laptop on sleep instead of powering it off. But, I don't like the idea of leaving it to sleep all through the day or night if I'm not going to use it.

Obviously, gaming on a laptop is much better and you can play with an Xbox controller or with mouse and keyboard. The graphics are also way better with a bigger screen. And, the choice of games is much wider than on the Nintendo Switch.



Nintendo Switch (Grey)

The laptop is still a computer and you do your works on it. You create and do a presentation, check emails, code games, do scientific calculations, or whatever. You can't do that or can you on a Nintendo switch? Although, it can't do more complex, heavy work.

The cool thing is that you can dock the Nintendo Switch to a monitor and use software like SmileBASIC 4 to study coding and create programs. If Microsoft documents are available on the Switch, you can actually create work documents on it too.



Nintendo Switch Lite - Gray

The Nintendo Switch has already been hacked and people are using it as a computer. So, if Nintendo wants to go to that route and turning their gaming console into a 'computer' it might open up their system more to people. It can be just like an android phone with all the apps.

If I can turn my Switch lite into a computer without hacking, I'll be using it more every day. Instead, of just using it before I sleep. Imagine, docking it to a Tv or monitor and do your work or have a quick gaming break. I might not even need a laptop anymore.

Okay, some people might not like that idea and prefer separating a gaming console from their working computer. But, I'm the type that likes everything to be on one device. I don't like to have an idea and then having to turn on my laptop or computer to work on it.

I guess, basically it depends on people's own preferences. To me, it all boils down to portability and the flexibility of the gaming laptop and the Nintendo Switch lite. One thing for sure, I'm more into gaming and watching entertainment on my Switch lite than on a laptop. 

Turning my switch lite into a computer would be cool. In this picture, I plug in my keyboard that can be used with the SmileBASIC 4, game coding software. You can't dock the switch lite though. I wish it could. But, still comfortable in desktop mode.

My new HP 15s laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 and Radeon X Vega 10 graphics. A little too big to hold while lying down, watching youtube (that's a joke). And, it's definitely not that too portable or flexible to use on the bed. Unless you have a small table.

As much as I love gaming on a laptop, portability and flexibility of use is a win for me.

Yesterday, I decided to mod the SmileBASIC 4 tutorial code again and add in whatever I have tested and learned. I also kinda like the whole game designed. I used the letter X as the ship and the box as the enemy(cube).

I like watching the whole circles and boxes moving at the start of the game. It's like an intro to the game. It looks like some kind of moving art. I can actually add in color or other stuff but for now, prefer the simple white lines.

I also got the idea of letting the player input their name before the start of the game. And, doing a fake ship system check. I actually forgot how to do it at first as I haven't been practicing the code. Which, I actually learned from Python.

The ability to tried out and practice what I've learned in python with SmileBASIC 4 is part of the reason why I like smilebasic so much. Although, my knowledge is not good enough to transfer some python games code to smilebasic.

If you have smilebasic 4, you can actually already download many games and even fun software like the music keyboard, drum pad machine, and even emulators. Not the game emulators but old computers. I don't think Nintendo likes the idea of game emulators on their system.

If you already have a coding technical background, there are many projects you can do or even teach. All software that you created and shared on the server can be downloaded and used by everyone. They can even mod it. It's supposed to be free for people to look at the code and learned from it.

The important this is that, once you have created or mod the code, you can play it on your Nintendo Switch or Switch lite. And, since it's a portable console, you can code while on the go and play it on the go too. I actually mode the Cube Shooter game while slouching on my chair.

I thought of setting my Switch lite with a physical keyboard but too lazy. Anyway, I just have to add or change a few things here and there. Nothing complicated. It's kinda fun and cool being able to do that when you just feel like it.

Of course, I already got the ideas in my head for a while. Some of it didn't work out like trying to add my own art. I don't know how or where to save and use it. But, you make do with what you have. One thing for sure, I definitely learn some more new stuff during this process too.
