My mom had always wanted to buy a robot vacuum. She finally did after seeing one on a deal. She told me to set it up and see how it works. She got a Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E5. I like the design. Simplicity at its best. I had a problem with the iPhone app version though.

Luckily, I also have a Samsung Zflip 5 Android phone. I downloaded and quickly connected the robot vacuum to my phone. You need to download the Xiaomi Home app and follow the app instructions. It will ask you to choose the vacuum version and press both the arrow and the power button to link.

It was relatively quick and easy. It is also easy to maintain. At first, I thought, you had to unscrew to open the dust collector. You just need to press open the bin button and clear it all. I know it works because there was so much dust in it. 

For the price, I'm really impressed with the robot vacuum. It is surprisingly strong too. It literally pushed everything that could be moved. The chairs, doors, flower pots, portable aircon and even felled my bicycle inside my room.

You need to be sure nothing will get stuck to the robot broom rotator. Even if it did, a notice is sent to the phone. The app needs to be updated. Use the app to schedule the dates and times. You can also manually control it. Cool!

The robot vacuum reminds me of my Raspberry Pi car robot. You can build your own and even code it to run manually or automatically using Python code. This robot vacuum doesn't have a camera so you won't know where it's going. Will be good if it has.

I wish the robot could map the house and show its location in the phone app. You can hear the motor running but it's not as loud as a normal vacuum cleaner. It will work as long as the battery lasts and returns to its docking charger. If you want to, you can instruct it to dock.

The battery would last over five hours. I live in a small apartment building and it takes a long time to vacuum every section of the house. That doesn't include the time it got stuck. I'm not in a hurry for it to finish. It does a pretty good job.

I've had it for a few days now and I like it. It does the job. Sometimes, you need to sweep away that little rubbish it pushed from under the tables, chairs, or cabinet. I just remembered the part where you can pour water into the mop holder.   

I also added a floor detergent. If your house is too dusty, you can run it to vacuum the floor first before adding the mop part. Since the robot had cleaned the whole house, I let it vacuum and mop. Now, I feel satisfied that the robot helps maintain the house floor. 

In the future, who knows I'll be able to get a robot to clean the whole house!

Yesterday, I decided to mod the SmileBASIC 4 tutorial code again and add in whatever I have tested and learned. I also kinda like the whole game designed. I used the letter X as the ship and the box as the enemy(cube).

I like watching the whole circles and boxes moving at the start of the game. It's like an intro to the game. It looks like some kind of moving art. I can actually add in color or other stuff but for now, prefer the simple white lines.

I also got the idea of letting the player input their name before the start of the game. And, doing a fake ship system check. I actually forgot how to do it at first as I haven't been practicing the code. Which, I actually learned from Python.

The ability to tried out and practice what I've learned in python with SmileBASIC 4 is part of the reason why I like smilebasic so much. Although, my knowledge is not good enough to transfer some python games code to smilebasic.

If you have smilebasic 4, you can actually already download many games and even fun software like the music keyboard, drum pad machine, and even emulators. Not the game emulators but old computers. I don't think Nintendo likes the idea of game emulators on their system.

If you already have a coding technical background, there are many projects you can do or even teach. All software that you created and shared on the server can be downloaded and used by everyone. They can even mod it. It's supposed to be free for people to look at the code and learned from it.

The important this is that, once you have created or mod the code, you can play it on your Nintendo Switch or Switch lite. And, since it's a portable console, you can code while on the go and play it on the go too. I actually mode the Cube Shooter game while slouching on my chair.

I thought of setting my Switch lite with a physical keyboard but too lazy. Anyway, I just have to add or change a few things here and there. Nothing complicated. It's kinda fun and cool being able to do that when you just feel like it.

Of course, I already got the ideas in my head for a while. Some of it didn't work out like trying to add my own art. I don't know how or where to save and use it. But, you make do with what you have. One thing for sure, I definitely learn some more new stuff during this process too.

The other day, I posted my new game, NOTOHOHO SHOOTER (youtube video)5, code modified from SmileBASIC 4 tutorial. Yesterday, I edited that code again to change the sprites, background, and music. Which is super cool. I rename the game to FOOD SHOOTER!

I used the few lines of new codes that I learned from the last game. Pretty nifty. I forgot to include a demo of touch-paint drawing that you can code and play within the video though. That is also something interesting to play with.

If you already have SmileBASIC 4, you can find and download both of the games from their server by using these two public keys. There's one problem though, I didn't know how the file system work. So, I just save it under the workspace. You'll have to click download before the game name appears. :p

The game is of course free and you can even mod the game yourself. Maybe, you can add a BOSS fight or a powerbomb that will clear all the food (enemy) at once. You'll need to add up more new lines of code to make it work.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to make a snake game. I need to make the snake move and when a button is pressed, it'll turn 90 degrees. If it eats a cake or something, it'll grow longer or I was thinking of adding more sprites as friends.

If I can learn to make all these simple games, it'll help me learn to code and later on create a more complex game. If I want to. The fun thing is that, once you're done making the game, you can then play it on your Switch. I actually enjoyed coding and playing my own game.

People will ask you, hey what's that game you're playing? Wouldn't it be cool to say, you're the one who codes it? And, they can even download it from the server for free. Of course, they'll need to buy SmileBASIC 4 to be able to do that.

I love playing quick, small simple games. There are some games that I want to code myself and be able to play on my Nintendo Switch lite. Most of the games are actually the same. The only difference is the graphics. If you're good at the arts, you can draw your own sprites or characters.

One good thing is that, if you can master SmileBASIC 4, you might even be able to code Android, Python, or Pc games. As they're all the same only, the language is different. It's like you know Japanese but now you're in Germany, so you'll have to learn the German language.

You can easily and quickly code on the go or Dock your Nintendo Switch to the TV or monitor. Plugin your favorite keyboard and mouse and you're good to go. Smileboom, even sell their own keyboard and mouse. You can get them from their website. Not sure if it's available worldwide.

Learning coding with python is fun!

I've been learning Python especially the practical parts since I bought my first Raspberry pi 3. Of course, I've been interested in learning about computers since way back in the 80s. I've blogged about it before. The first time I touch a real computer was in a military show.

I didn't get the chance to enroll in any computer class before. But, at the back of my mind, I always wanted to learn. Back in the days, when the internet was still new, I heard about java and wanted to learn it. I can't remember if I actually bought any books. It was such a long time ago. I did learn how to create my own websites.

Learning to create my own website was fun too. I don't think blogs exist yet back then. The WYSIWYG website creating software really helps. I guess you could call that learning to code too as I learn about frames, linking, fonts, etc. Which I still am using today!

Piracy was rampant during that time and you could buy 3 CDs of software for just $10 bucks. Yup, I bought tons of them. I even bought hacker CDs. Teaching you how to hack. But, I never actually use any of that. It didn't even work. Lol :p 



A Smarter Way to Learn Python: Learn it faster. Remember it longer.

I might be a 'beginner' in python but I'm not sure why I feel so passionate about it. Maybe, because it's easy to learn. Ok, it's still far away for me to create my own program but just by learning using a few codes here and there is already fun and interesting for me.

The desire to be able to create my own game is definitely part of the reasons. Although, I've actually created some using Scratch. Which is like the WYSIWYG. An easier and quicker way to learn and create your own stuff. Great for the kids!



Coding for Kids: Python: Learn to Code with 50 Awesome Games and Activities

Well, I loved text-based RPG and I'm trying to create one. I came across a website that already has a sample code that you can play with. So, based on that codes I played around and try creating my own text-based RPG game. It took me a whole day just to make things work.

Every time, I found a sample code, I'll play around with it and try out stuff. I find that if I don't do this or practice, I'll actually forget them. Even if just for a few days. I'm not sure if this is normal. I guess, with coding, you need practical practice too?



Visual Studio Code: End-to-End Editing and Debugging Tools for Web Developers

I actually only just started using the Visual Studio Code (main site link). I was checking out the Microsoft python youtube channel and they recommend their viewers to download it. I thought, maybe, I'll try that. I'm glad I did.

I've also been dabbling with WSL aka Windows Subsystem for Linux. I've heard that you can integrate it with VSC. That's another reason, I wanted to try it out. It's definitely a faster and cool way to code and test it out on Linux. Everything in one editor!

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to add pictures and sound to my text-based RPG game. Which I'm entitling, "The Adventure of the Brave Warrior". Nothing fancy. Oh, in conjunction with learning python, I also used my knowledge with SmileBASIC 4 for my Nintendo Switch lite.

Coding with SmileBASIC 4 is almost the same with python. Every time, I learned anything new in python, I'll try it out in SmileBASIC. I might have to change some of the code here and there but it basically works the same.

Last night, I tried to code a bit of my, Brave Warrior text-based RPG game on my switch lite and it works. Although, it's actually much easier for me to change the font colors, add background music, sprites, etc. I've already learned how to do that.

That's why I love my Switch lite. SmileBASIC 4 (main site) might not be pure python but it's another way for me to practice coding and create my own game at the same time. It's also portable and you can do it anytime and anywhere. Even without internet access!

 I really do hope, that I can learn and use python on my Switch lite one day. The Nintendo Switch is a great educational learning system too!
