Hey guys,
Check it out!
I was given the code for the game Viola: The Heroine's Melody (Steam link) and I must say, the more I get the hang of the control, the more I like it. Frankly, I was a bit exasperated at first although, still kinda because of the jumping control.
I was so frustrated that I decided to give my feedback to the game dev. For some reason, you have to hit the A button for the jumping at the precise time and position to get to a higher level. It's not I haven't played this kind of side-scrolling platformer but somehow the jumping a little different.

For one thing, at the start, I was already stuck at jumping to reach the top of the 3 level step hill. You need to hit the 'A' button at the precise position to be able to reach the top at one go. If you fail, you need to go down again and start over.
That's the thing. If you make a mistake, you can't jump from the 2nd level. You can't even climb. I don't remember having this kind of problem playing other games. Well, maybe, I'm out of the loop but at least I managed to get past the problem. Sometimes, I give up and just move along to a much easier path.

I also had a problem with using the health potion at the first battle. When I click the 'A' button nothing seems to be happening. In the end, my character died. Also, I keep missing the button as it slides to the left. Caught me a little off-guard. Once you get used to it and remember which button to press. Muscle memory just took over.
Another earlier problem I had was the hold and mash. There's actually an instruction but I miss it at first. So, I didn't know what the heck I should do to be able to use my power. I'm used to playing Call of Duty button instructions but this game only shows you the image. Took me a while to understand what I was supposed to do.

Once, I learned how the control work and managed to win a couple more battles, especially using the health potions and power it got a little bit easier. That's when I started to enjoy playing the game. I can concentrate more on strategy instead of how the control works. I still have a problem with the jumping and the sliding buttons but I'll get better at it the more I play.
I get a little confused about the buttons because the 'A', 'B', 'X' and 'Y' positions on my Xbox controller and my Nintendo Switch lite are different. I always need to re-calibrate my muscle memory every time I play on a different gaming console. By the way, you can also play the game with the keyboard. Can't remember if you can remap the keys. I never do remapping of the controller and keyboard.

Viola: The Heroine's Melody is a musical Platformer/RPG. After failing at violin practice for the hundredth time, Viola becomes trapped inside her instrument's fantastical world. As her character you'll go on an adventure to find her way back home, aided by the diverse ensemble of friends she meets along the way.
Right now, you can get early game access for just $9.99. So, what are you waiting for? If you're looking for an RPG game that offers something different, this is it. A musical, side-scrolling platformer with an interesting story. Help viola reaches back home and meets her dad again, who she is already missing. I don't know any other side-scrolling platformer game that also has turn-based battle?
You also don't need a high-end gaming laptop or desktop to play this game. Doesn't even takes up any big storage space. Too bad this game isn't available for the Nintendo Switch. Not sure if the dev got any plans for it. But, there are plans for a console version. So, there might be hope for that. This type of game will be perfect to play on my bed before I go to sleep.
