Celebrating My Birthday in JB: Thai Flavors, Sweaty Moments & Kodak FZ55 Fun

This year, I decided to make my birthday a little different. Instead of the usual stay-at-home celebration, I crossed the border to Johor Bahru, Malaysia, for a brunch adventure with my family. My nephew had been raving about a place called Kampung Carabao, a Thai-style restaurant famous for its rich flavors and spicy dishes.

Kampung Carabao: A Spicy Birthday Brunch

The moment we stepped in, the restaurant’s warm wooden décor and Thai-inspired atmosphere set the mood for a cozy brunch. The menu was loaded with classic Thai favorites—Tom Yum soups, green curries, and spicy stir-fries.

I’m not great with too hot spice, but I wanted to try it. Within minutes, I was sweating profusely. The heat wasn’t just from the Malaysian weather—it was from the food! Thankfully, I paired my meal with hot tea, and to my surprise, I didn’t have any stomach issues the next day. The tea really could be the secret weapon against spice overload.

Capturing the Day with the Kodak PIXPRO FZ55

Since it was a special day, I brought along my trusty Kodak PIXPRO FZ55. I’ve had bigger, more powerful cameras like my Nikon P950, Zfc, and Z8, but sometimes it’s fun to just carry something light and easy.

Kodak PIXPRO FZ55 Key Specs:

  • 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor

  • 28mm wide-angle lens with 5× optical zoom

  • 2.7" LCD display

  • 1080p Full HD video recording

  • Slim, lightweight design under $200

  • Rechargeable Li-ion battery

  • Digital image stabilization

I kept it mostly in auto mode, but I tried some of the scene modes, and they worked surprisingly well. One thing I noticed: the camera has a stabilization option in the menu, but you still need to keep your hands very steady—especially when shooting video. For best results, recommend resting it on a stable platform.

You can watch a video from this trip on my YouTube channel.

Shopping and a Smooth Ride Home

After brunch, we headed to our usual shopping center. I treated myself to a simple messenger bag—a little birthday gift. Luckily, there was no traffic jam at Singapore customs, and we made it home by 8 PM.

To wrap up the day, I bought a small cake and had a quiet moment. It wasn’t a grand celebration, but it was filled with family, laughter, good food, and a chance to play with my camera.

Final Thoughts

The Kodak FZ55 might not match the power of my Nikons, but for a fun day out, it’s more than enough. It's really a great budget travel photography and videography camera. This trip reminded me that birthdays don’t have to be extravagant—sometimes, all you need is good company, delicious food, and a little gadget to capture the memories.

My Photography with Astrhori 50mm lens and Nikon Zfc | Singapore Japanese Cemetery Park

(All links will open up in a new tab.)

Hey guys,

Check it out!

I've been re-using, and re-editing pictures and videos I took using my Nikon Coolpix P950 and Nikon Zfc with Microsoft ClipChamp video editing software. You can download it from the Microsoft Store. It's awesome. There are many free templates, background music, cool effects, etc.

You can also purchase more music, effects, and more. I'm impressed. Once, you're done, you can save your videos or immediately upload them to YouTube or other social media. You can save in several formats and ratios. It's easy to use even for novices.

I wasn't happy with some of the earlier videos I edited and uploaded. I could have done better. Luckily, I didn't delete them and kept them still on my hard disk. I kept the main files on my SD card. Once it's full, I just buy a new one. I trust them on my SD card more than other storage offers.

I used to store all my files in external storage devices but they all became faulty. Nowadays, they have the SSD type. I might try them in the future. Seems to last longer. My computer's internal SSD is still fine. My main hard disk died years ago.

The funny thing though is that I re-used my old laptop hard disk and it's still working great. I kept some of my old laptop hard disks as you never know. I've been wanting to upgrade my 100GB SSD as it's running out of space. This could be one of the reasons, I couldn't upgrade to Windows 11.

Anyway, I hope you guys watch my new re-edited video of my photography using the AstrHori 50mm lens with my Nikon Zfc. As I've said, I like the new Microsoft editing software the Clipchamp. One photo effect I keep choosing is the 35mm lens.

For some reason, the image looks much nicer to me when I use the 35mm lens effect. I'm even thinking of getting a prime 35mm lens. People say it makes your picture look much tighter. My favorite prime lens that I've been using is the SE 28mm which I got with my Zfc.

I want to purchase the new 28-400mm lens to go with my Nikon Z8. I have the 50-250mm z dx. From my own experience, the 28-400mm will be much preferred. I could reach further with the 400mm. I'm getting more experience with the more pictures and videos I took.

I'm thinking of getting the latest Fujifilm XM5. I've been checking some videos of it on YouTube and I like it. Though the retro design reminds me of my Zfc. What I'm really interested in is the film recipes that they offer on the camera itself.

You can choose the type of photo recipe you like before taking photos. It's available by rotating the dial. You can also take a 6k video. A 6k is more than enough. You can then download it to your phone and immediately upload it to your social media.

I'm kind of an impatient person and also I think, I suckz at editing photos and videos. That's why the XM5 seems made for me. It's not out yet. The news is that it'll be out mid of Nov. I'm not going to purchase it straight away. I'll get it when I get the chance.

a hopeful memories | Yishun Dam | Nikon Coolpix P950 #nikon #yishundam #nikoncoolpixp950

(All links will open up in a new tab.)

Hey guys,

Check it out!

I had my Nikon Coolpix P950 for a couple of years now. Looking back at all the pictures and videos I have taken with it makes me realize I'm good as a photographer or videographer. I'm still learning though. There are still things that I need to understand.

The good thing is that the more I practice and learn to use my camera, the better I get. Currently, I'm using my Nikon Z8 as my main camera. I decided to purchase it, although it was expensive. I count it as an investment in knowledge and skills.

I have always been interested in photography. I remember borrowing my mom's camera to take photos. Where is it now or what brand? Film is such a hassle. People like it but compared to the mirrorless camera, it's much easier to use and share on social media.

I remember taking many photos and when I sent them to the shop, some pictures couldn't be developed. One time, my platoon Sergeant, took out his film roll after it passed through the airport scanner. It's because people say the X-rays will destroy the pictures.

He's such an idiot. I didn't have any problem with my films. I still have them after over twenty years. I took pictures using my phone and posted some of them online. Memories are what we all hang to in our later years. That's why I re-edited and re-posted my P950 videos.

Here are links to some photography and videography adventures I took using my Nikon P950.
Recently, I also took photos and videos using my Nikon Zfc. Check 'em out below!
Watch the videos above if you want to visit or learn about Singapore or Thailand.

I love the Nikon Zfc too. It's a good budget camera to bring along on vacations. It's so good, my nephew wanted to buy it from me. But, he changed his mind when we came back home. Anyway, I had great fun taking photos and videos with it.

I'm actually interested in the latest Fujifilm XM5. What caught my eye is that it has many film simulations for photography and videography settings. I like the silver design which looks like my Nikon Zfc. It also costs the same with or without the lens included.

I think I suck at editing pictures and videos. That's one thing I'm trying to learn and improve on. That's why I mostly prefer shooting in auto and jpeg. But, the Nikon Z8 doesn't have auto settings. Which is good as it forces me to learn to shoot manually. Dabbling with all the settings.

I'm learning to edit my Nikon Z8 RAW videos with Davinci Resolve. I'm having fun upgrading my knowledge and skills. I want to make more great videos for my YouTube channel!

My New $200+ budget Nikon Z8 Camera Rig #nikonz8 #camerarig

(All links will open up in a new tab)

Hey guys,

Check it out!

Finally, I got some of the parts needed to build my own Nikon Z8 camera rig. And it only cost over $200+ including my new Feelworld field monitor. I'm still waiting for my top handle though. The handle that I ordered before was canceled.

A good thing as I realized I'd prefer a different design. That will allow me to fit my monitor in front instead of on the top side. This would be more ergonomic and look much nicer. I learned this from one of the YouTube videos. lol.

Another thing is that I bought a wheel-type side handle for my rig. It looks nice and feels good to hold. Also, it helps me to hide my HDMI A TO A cable inside it. Pretty nifty. I can't use the cable included with my Feelworld monitor as it's an HDMI A to mini.

The wheel is also light. On the right side, I decided to use the hand strap that I already have. Surprisingly, it's not that heavy. Even with the monitor fixed. I'll weigh it once everything is done. I also think it'll make my video more stable now.

Now that I have a camera rig, I decided to buy a bigger camera backpack. I found one from the K&F Concept camera backpack. It is 32L size with a shoulder bag included. You can use the shoulder bag instead of carrying the whole backpack, when out and about during traveling.

I want to use that shoulder bag to put the camera rig inside. A hassle to take the rig apart, especially on travel. Well, I'll still have to take out the monitor. I won't need it all the time. I discovered while traveling, my family won't wait for me. So, I'll have to be fast.

Making a cinematic story or video doesn't have to travel to faraway places. That's my conclusion. Currently, my philosophy and style is about the daily grind of life. The little things that we do every day. Your home is a good start to create something with your camera.

I like to dabble with my camera and test a lot with it. What's better than to test taking pictures and videos in your home? It might not seem much but I've watched others do it and they can evoke emotion in you. A feeling of nostalgia or loneliness etc.

I bought the field monitor to see and take a video of myself. You can turn it around and see yourself on the bigger screen. My Z8 view screen can't be used for selfies. Not like, my Nikon Zfc. If you don't have someone to be or act in your video, you can?

I watched a video where a photo looks even better with a subject in it. So, you can do a bit of your own acting in your video. Of course, it's always better to use a tripod. You can adjust the tripod height or put it at an angle taking a video of you. You don't even have to show your face. Cool!

NIKON Z8 | 50 - 250mm | CINEMATIC SHORT | MORNING RAIN #nikonz8 #cinematicshort

(Note: All links will open up in a new tab)

Hey guys,

Check it out!

I decided to do a videography on my new camera, the Nikon Z8. I'm still learning and trying out some settings. I did a reasonably good job. I've been checking out some other videos on YouTube and I got an idea of what kind of video I wanted to do.

I currently have a problem with my left knee. So, I can only walk a little. Been itching to go out and try out the Nikon z8. I've been wanting to do a video during the rain. I used to hate the rainy season. I prefer the beautiful blue sky for photography.

Later on, I realized that rain can be a positive thing. It can add a bit of drama to the photo or video. We can use natural light to make the picture more in-depth. That's what I believe anyway. This is my first try and I hope there'll be positive feedback.

Of course, I don't expect everyone to like it. Everyone has their own preferences. Sometimes, that's one of the reasons stopping me from taking photographs or making a video. I always wondered why I even bothered. Then again, why should I care what others think as long as I'm happy?

You can't please them. Anyway, I've been uploading videos on my YouTube channel for a long time. Some popular videos got high views. Because of YouTube's new #short videos, most views have dropped. My video views significantly dropped too.

One positive thing from the #shorts video is that it helps me get more subscribers. I also get many views from my #short videos. #short videos are easy to make and quick to upload. So there are cons and pros to YouTube's #short. You just need your phone to take videos and upload them.

I love making videos. That's why I decided to get the Nikon Z8. Yes, it's expensive. But, it's an investment. I'm still new to photography but the Z8 can make me a better photographer and videographer. It's a great hybrid camera if you love both.

My first camera was the Nikon Coolpix P950. I love the zooming capabilities. Watch this video I made with the P950. The second camera I bought is also a Nikon, the Zfc. I love the Nikon Zfc too. One of my favorite photos and videos I took in this video.

I used the Nikkor z dx 20-250mm to take the video. I plan to get the latest 28-400mm for my z8. I love the prime 28mm lens that came with my Zfc. I want the 28mm lens and the 400mm range. I've used the zoom in my P950 that's why I love lenses with different zoom capabilities.

I'm getting the gimbal or the cage for my z8. But, they are pretty expensive. Using a handheld seems ok. If you plan to take some action videos, you certainly need them. I'm still testing and doing my own research to make good videos. If you like my "Morning Rain" video pls like and share!

Yup! I love my Nikon Z8!

finally! my new nikon z8 camera #nikonz8

Hey guys,

Check it out!

Finally, I've got myself the new Nikon Z8 camera!

Before that, I was thinking of getting the latest Sony Alpha 7RV. I did bulked at having to buy new lenses for it. And, they were pretty expensive. So, when Nikon announced the Z8 with an overall, same specs as the Z9, I was adamant about getting it.

Instead of switching to another eco-system. I stuck with Nikon. I already have several lenses that I bought for my Nikon Zfc. Regrettably, I'm selling off my Zfc and P950. The Nikon Coolpix P950 was my first-ever camera and the start of my love for photography.

You can check out some of the pictures and videos I took with the Nikon P950 and Zfc on my YouTube channel here. I recently went to Hatyai Thailand and got the chance to do street photography with my Zfc. It was a blast and I really enjoyed the holiday.

You can check the Hatyai Thailand holiday videos on this link.

I think, I took some good photos and I really like some of them. Especially, at the floating flea markets. You can check out some of the photos below:

I'm just an amateur photographer and still learning about photography. Despite that, I decided to upgrade my camera to the most advanced I could afford and that is the Nikon Z8. I took some sample photos and you can check some of them below:

I'm really loving the Nikon Z8. I love learning how to use it and take better photographs and videos. I still prefer taking JPEGs and 4K videos instead of raw. As I'm the lazy and impatient type. Anyway, for the videos, I need to use more advanced editing software.

I'm taking a step-by-step approach to learning how to use the camera and also the editing process. Anyway, I don't think I can edit the 8K vids with my current Mac m1 pro with only 16 GB of RAM. I'll need more storage space too.

I'm not really in a hurry as I have a lifetime to learn and improve my photography and videography. You can watch my growth with the videos and pictures I'll be taking throughout the years I'll put up here or on my main YouTube channel. So, don't forget to subscribe and share!

That's all for now. Happy photography and videography!

My new Viltrox 13mm F1.4 AF lens for Nikon Zfc unboxing

VILTROX 13mm F1.4 f/1.4 Nikon z Mount Lens, Super Wide Angle Autofocus APS-C Lens for Nikon Z50 Z30 Z6II Z7II Z6 Z7

Hey guys,

Check it out!

I got the chance to test out my new Viltrox 13mm, f1.4 AF lens on my Nikon zfc, and I love it. Though, it's not for all situations. Especially, when I want closer shots of my subject. Sometimes, it's too broad. Hence, having to change the lens frequently. Lol.

I was planning to go out again today and use the Viltrox 13mm lens but, the weather forecast says it's gonna be cloudy the whole day. It's actually dark in my room right now. I was hoping for some bright blue skies. Anyway, since it's a holiday, it's a great chance to rest my body aka body maintenance.

VILTROX 13mm F1.4 f/1.4 Nikon z Mount Lens, Super Wide Angle Autofocus APS-C Lens for Nikon Z50 Z30 Z6II Z7II Z6 Z7

I really like how sharp the 13mm is. It really does give a little difference in the view perspective. Most reviewer says it's great for landscape. I usually set my camera to auto. And, it works well with the viltrox lens. It does give a little wider view.

The lens is a tad heavy. You can really feel the build quality and how much you pay for it. As I'm using it with the Nikon zfc, it really gives my camera a distinctive look. Yup, I know people eyeing my camera while carrying it around.

Z fc DX-Format Mirrorless Camera Body w/NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE)

Maybe, it's because I'm like the only one carrying a camera. Well, there is this one other guy with a bigger lens than mine. Kinda funny, cause he's probably wondering why mine, the lens, is shorter if I'm gonna shoot some birds.

I didn't really go to the Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve (Google Maps) to get some bird shots. I also wanted to try my new Nikon Nikkor Z DX 50-250mm lens. I'm also loving the lens. Though I couldn't get much closer shots, I can still enlarge and crops the pics later.

NIKON NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR Ultra-Compact Long Telephoto Zoom Lens with Image Stabilization for Nikon Z Mirrorless Cameras

Well, you need to go out there and start shooting photos if you want to improve and I certainly learn a lot by doing it. Every time I went out hiking or cycling to interesting places to take photos, I discovered what kind of lens I should or not use.

I basically got myself the Nikkor z dx 50-250mm because I like zooming in or out to get the shots that I want or preferred. When I first used the 28mm prime lens, I really miss the zooming capabilities of my Nikon Coolpix P950. Of course, the prime lens offered a different perspective too.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S

When I went to the wetland reserve, I wasn't thinking of getting bird shots. Luckily, I had the 50-250mm. So, I managed to get some good bird shots. But, I soon realized, I'm a couple mm lens shorts. I couldn't get any closer. Now, I'm thinking can or should I get a teleconverter

I just saw this Nikon Nikkor z 400mm (without a tc) and have been watching some reviews and Nikon official videos on it. Looks like pretty amazing pictures and videos. I also like how some reviewers say it's much shorter and lighter compares to other big lenses.

Check out some of my 13mm and 50-250mm pics I took at the Sungei Buloh Wetland reserve below:

The last pic is cropped from a 50-250mm shot. The lens couldn't get any closer but I can enlarge and crop it. Still looks good. Also, using the 13mm is also great for a vertical shot. Useful, when taking a pic of the tall tower. You don't have to stand further out.

Because I'm lazy, I shot mostly in jpegs and just edit a bit of color, brightness, saturation, etc. For more pics and videos of the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Check out my video here. Pls like, share & subscribe!

Nikon ZFC Nikkor Z DX 50 250mm & Viltrox 13mm - Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Z fc DX-Format Mirrorless Camera Body w/NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE)

Hey guys,

Check it out!

Here I am again, typing on my new Macbook Pro M1 pro. Okay, I'm typing on my external gaming keyboard and using a gaming mouse setup. But, I am using my MacBook. Yesterday, I wirelessly and it seems to get easier and faster once I'm able to quickly link my Nikon Zfc to the Mac.

My camera is linked to the Mac via wifi, and it automatically transferred all my pictures and videos. The first time I did it, was exasperating. As I didn't really know how to do it. This time round everything runs smoothly. I was able to quickly start video editing with iMovie.

Z fc DX-Format Mirrorless Camera Body w/NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE)

Yesterday, was Xmas and a holiday. Wishing all a happy and merry Xmas. I went out with my friend to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (Google Maps). An excellent place to test out my new Nikkor Z DX 50-250mm and also the Viltrox 13mm which I just got and didn't really have a chance to try out.

I must say it's kind of a hassle to keep having to change between the two lenses. Wearing cargo pants with many big side pockets or having a lens pouch is recommended. Any time I want a wide shot, I'll use the Viltrox 13mm. But, if I want a closer shot and needed to zoom, I'll change to the 50-250mm.

COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera with 125X Optical Zoom + Pixibytes Pro 6 Pcs Bundle:

I'm thinking maybe, for this kind of nature photography, I should have used my Nikon Coolpix P950. With its 83x optical zoom and up to 2000mm digital zoom. I could have easily gotten a closer shot of the birds. It's not to say the Nikkor Z Dx 50-250mm and Viltrox 13mm aren't good enough though.

I still can get a good zoom shot and later crop a close-up. If I had the money, I might get a longer-range lens. It's still a lot of fun to take pictures with both lenses. Loving the ability to get a wide shot with the 13mm. Especially, when you can look out to a beautiful wide open area.

VILTROX 13mm F1.4 f/1.4 Nikon z Mount Lens, Super Wide Angle Autofocus APS-C Lens for Nikon Z50 Z30 Z6II Z7II Z6 Z7

Really depends on your budget and what you're going for. In any case, for my beginner level, this setup is more than enough for me. Though, I really like to try out the new Sony a7rv. Guess, I'll have to start saving. Lol. One thing is for sure, I feel like I'm in the minority using a camera than a mobile phone.

I do see, mostly guys, with their cameras and long-range lens. But, the rest of the people are just tourists taking pictures with their mobile. A little funny when they saw me with a heavy backpack. The silver Nikon Z fc does attract glances. I do feel you can do more with a full camera and lens setup.

NIKON NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR Ultra-Compact Long Telephoto Zoom Lens with Image Stabilization for Nikon Z Mirrorless Cameras

I have always thought of buying a camera and photography but it's only now that I finally decided to get one. The Nikon Coolpix P1000's ability to zoom to the moon intrigued me. Though I managed to get a good deal with the P950 instead. And my journey in photography started.

Now, after using the camera for a while, I'm starting to learn and enjoy it. Check out some of the pics I took with the Nikkor z dx 50-250mm and Viltrox 13mm wide angle lens. I use Nikon NX Studio for simple jpeg format edit. For more pics and videos check out my video on youtube.

Not bad for an amateur photographer eh? :p
