The TikTok Ban: Implications for Younger Americans and Society #tiktok #tiktokban

The TikTok Ban: Implications for Younger Americans and Society

The recent decision by the U.S. government to consider banning TikTok has sparked significant debate, particularly regarding its impact on younger generations. There are over a billion users worldwide, especially among Gen Z and Millennials. This article explores the potential implications of such a ban, including its economic, social, and psychological effects, and examines the broader question: Is banning TikTok the right move?

A Cultural Mainstay: Why TikTok Matters

TikTok has revolutionized social media with its algorithm-driven content, short-form videos, and global reach. Popular categories include dance challenges, comedy skits, educational content, and trend-driven videos. It has also become a platform for activism and expression, giving younger users a voice on global issues.

Economic Implications for Creators

TikTok has created a thriving ecosystem where millions of users earn a living by producing content. Influencers, marketers, and small business owners rely heavily on TikTok to generate income through brand partnerships, product promotions, and creative content.

A ban could leave these creators scrambling for alternatives, disrupting their livelihoods. Rival platforms like Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Snapchat Spotlight may absorb some of this talent, but transitioning to a new platform often means rebuilding an audience from scratch.

Social and Psychological Impact on Youth

Younger users view TikTok as more than an app; it’s a social hub. A sudden ban could lead to feelings of loss, frustration, and even rebellion against perceived governmental overreach. Psychologists warn that such disruptions might affect mental health, particularly for those who rely on TikTok for community and self-expression.

Physically, TikTok’s highly engaging format has been criticized for promoting sedentary behavior, though it also encourages movement through dance challenges. A ban may reduce screen time but leave a void in social connectivity.

Public Opinion: Anger or Acceptance?

The response to a TikTok ban is divided. While some support the government’s concerns about data security and foreign influence, many users view the ban as an overreaction. Among young Americans, anger and disbelief are prevalent sentiments. However, organized rebellion seems unlikely; instead, users might shift their attention to alternative platforms.

Alternatives to TikTok

Several apps could fill the void left by TikTok:

- Instagram Reels: Offers similar short-form video content with a built-in audience.

- YouTube Shorts: Appeals to creators seeking monetization opportunities.

- Snapchat Spotlight: Focuses on user-generated content and rewards creators.

Is TikTok Truly a Threat?

Critics of TikTok argue that its ties to China’s ByteDance pose national security risks, with concerns about data privacy and potential manipulation. Advocates counter that these risks are overblown and that similar issues exist with U.S.-based tech giants.

Top Books About TikTok’s Success

(All links will open up in a new tab.)

For those interested in understanding TikTok’s rise and emulating its success, these books come highly recommended:

1. "TikTok Boom: China’s Dynamite App and the Race to Go Viral" by Chris Stokel-Walker – A deep dive into TikTok’s global impact.

2. "Attention Factory: The Story of TikTok and China’s ByteDance" by Matthew Brennan – Explores the strategies behind TikTok’s success.

3. "Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media" by Brittany Hennessy – Offers practical advice for aspiring influencers.

Conclusion: A Generational Turning Point?

The potential ban on TikTok represents a pivotal moment for the younger generation, raising questions about freedom, security, and the role of government in regulating technology. While the platform has flaws, it is a critical outlet for creativity and connection. As the debate continues, one thing is clear: the ripple effects of a TikTok ban will be felt far beyond the app itself.

I bought Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 unboxing HD 1080p #zflip5

SAMSUNG Galaxy Z Flip 5 Cell Phone, Factory Unlocked Android Smartphone, 512GB, Compact, Foldable Design, One-Hand Control, Best Selfies, Full Cover Screen, US Version, 2023, Mint

Hey guys,

Check it out!

It has been a couple of weeks and only now, able to post and talk about the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 mobile phone. I expected to enjoy using the phone. At first, I was only interested in the Z Fold series. But, why not try the Z Flip5?

When folded, it's a little thick but, I love using the bigger cover screen. I can glance at the notifications and even reply to my WhatsApp messages. My favorite widgets were the calendar, weather, alarms, and WhatsApp. There are also maps, Netflix, and YouTube apps.

SAMSUNG Galaxy Z Flip 5 Cell Phone, Factory Unlocked Android Smartphone, 512GB, Compact, Foldable Design, One-Hand Control, Best Selfies, Full Cover Screen, US Version, 2023, Mint

I can't check out my FB, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and other social media on the cover screen. Instead, having to unfold the phone. Although, the cover screen is a little small and squarish. But, I like using the phone in that form.

When using WhatsApp, the keyboard takes up almost half of the space. Slide up to full mode or tap the person's image. A little hassle but I don't mind. Good when you want to quickly reply without unfolding the Zflip 5. People always ask me when I'm using it while folded.

You don't have to unfold the phone to use it. Yes, it's just like a laptop. Open half-way and it'll automatically let you use the bottom half like a laptop touchpad. Double-fingers to scroll through website pages. Use the cursor to click on links etc. Just like a mini laptop!

If you like playing retro games on your mobile phone, then playing on a Z Flip5 is like playing on a Gameboy Advance SP. Check out my video demo playing retro games on the Z Flip5. I also like the ability to take selfies or videos as you don't need to bring along a stand.

SAMSUNG Galaxy Z Fold 5 Cell Phone, Factory Unlocked Android Smartphone, 512GB, Big 7.6” Screen for Streaming, Gaming, Dual App View, One-Hand Control, Hands-Free Use, US Version, 2023, Icy Blue

You can put your Z Flip5 any way you like and the screen will rotate. Put it on your table and use it like a clock or a calendar. All of these without having to unfold the phone. By the way, tap to use the voice message. Which is much easier!

One of my colleagues at work thought the Z Flip5 was a portable music player. I opened it up to show him it was a phone. My mom is also interested in getting one. She didn't care for it when I showed her the first time. But, after a while, she got intrigued by how small it was when folded. Lol.

Leiju Case for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Cute Case with Strap Hinge Protection,3D Handmade Sparkle Stunning Stones Crystal Diamond Bling Glitter Phone Case with Screen Protector

Putting on a case will make it more bulky. Without casing, it's slippery. It's quite light and will make you keep checking your pocket if the phone is still there. The phone is also pretty slim. Obviously, or it will be too bulky when closed.

When it's folded as someone noted, it's flat and with the case, you won't see any spaces in between. The power button is also a fingerprint sensor. Reminds me of my old obsolete Razer phone. The volume control is on the right. When folded you can use the main front camera for selfies.

You can also do WhatsApp video calls folded. Pretty nifty. All possible because of the bigger cover screen. Someone could build a similar form, a squarish phone. Yes, bigger is good. But, sometimes, you just want something smaller. Yes, no?

my new apple watch ultra 49mm Alpine loop unboxing

Apple Watch Ultra [GPS + Cellular 49mm] Smart Watch w/Rugged Titanium Case & Green Alpine Loop Medium. Fitness Tracker, Precision GPS, Action Button, Extra-Long Battery Life, Brighter Retina Display

Hey guys,

Check it out!

What have I bought and have been using these few days? The Apple Watch Ultra! And, I'm really loving it. I've been resisting not getting the Apple watch for a long time. I finally caved in after my nephew bought one and showed it to me.

Yes. I didn't know anything about the Apple Watch Ultra before this. It actually intrigued me. Frankly, I've been thinking of getting the Apple Watch since it first came out but I wasn't a fan of the design. I wasn't also into health until now.

I've been cycling to work and gone to cool places I've never been to. That's when I started using Google maps and also got interested in reading my health and fitness stats. I even bought a cheap smartwatch that supposedly can read my heartbeat rates.

For cycling stats, I have the magene bike computer. I'm still going to use it when I go out riding. Before, I wasn't really sure that a watch can read my heartbeat or give me all the stats. Like, I've said, I have never owned a smartwatch before. Simply because they're expensive.

Well, they used to be expensive. Nowadays, you can get a good cheap one with all the apps to help you read your performance stats. Okay, maybe the sensors aren't as good or advanced enough. The one I got has a heartbeat reading, calories burned, and steps.

What I really loved about my Ultra though is the ability to read your ECG reading. As they stated, they can't check for stroke but you can at least see if there are any irregularities in rhythm. I always thought I have a heart problem. As my breathing isn't good. Turn out, I have a broken nose.

Apple Watch Series 8 [GPS + Cellular 41mm] Smart Watch w/ Graphite Stainless Steel Case w/ Midnight Sport Band-M/L. Fitness Tracker, Blood Oxygen & ECG Apps, Always-On Retina Display, Water Resistant

Yes. I didn't know I had a broken nose until I was referred to a nose specialist. He discovered my nose was so badly broken it formed an 'S'. No wonder, I've been having breathing problems. I went through my two years of military service with a broken nose. Lol.

Anyway, besides being able to check your heartbeat, blood oxygen, and other useful fitness sports stats, I also love the ability to reply to my WhatsApp messages. My nephew also taught me to use the walkie-talkie app. Now, we can voice chat anytime via our Apple watch. Cool!

Apple Watch Series 7 (GPS, 45mm) Blue Aluminum Case with Abyss Blue Sport Band, Regular (Renewed)

I've been buying an Apple watch ultra band and games to play. There aren't many good games, yet. I feel developers aren't taking the apple watch seriously enough. Surprisingly, I actually love playing quick-fix games on my watch. At 49mm, the screen is pretty big. Looks bulky, but light on the wrist.

The Apple Watch is the future. It's good enough that you can even start to leave your phone at home. It's not perfect. It's like the first gen iPhone. They have been improving on it and now it's becoming more powerful. A camera in the future? Real social media app? Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and youtube!

Compatible with Apple Watch ultra Band 42mm 44 mm 45 mm49 mm Men, Top Grain Leather Band Replacement Strap iWatch Series 8/7/ 6/5/ 4/ 3/ 2/ 1, SE, ultra. Retro Leather (Retro coffee+Black buckle, 42mm44mm45mm49mm)

You can actually already use third-party apps to access them on your phone. But, we want official apps. Right now, I'm only able to receive FB and Instagram notifications. But, can't click on the link to view it. There's an ubrowser and a hidden safari browser for some reason can't play youtube and log in to FB.

The Ultra watch battery can pretty much last the whole day if you're working the usual 8 hrs job. By the time I reached home, it'll still be at 60-75%. I don't need to charge on Sat night if I'm not going out on Sunday. Guess, my typical usage isn't that heavy.

I still have 24GB of storage left from 32GB. I love how all the apps are small byte sizes. I believe there are occasions when you don't want to bring along your phone or maybe bring it along while hiking as a standby in an emergency. A smartwatch will be your main device in the future instead.

Beach Videos & Pics taken with My Samsung Note 10+ Camera

SAMSUNG Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G Factory Unlocked Android Cell Phone 256GB US Version Smartphone Pro-Grade Camera 8K Video 108MP High Res, Phantom Black

Hey guys,

Check it out!

I specifically went to the beach last Sunday to take photos with my new camera, Nikon Coolpix P950. Testing the pictures and video quality. Of course, most important of all, trying out the 83x zoom. It was pretty awesome despite the drizzling and cloudy day.

I'm actually more used to taking photos and videos on my mobile phone. Currently, I'm still using my favorite Samsung Note 10+. Yes, I can take photos on my P950 and transfer them via Bluetooth to my phone. It's a bit of a hassle. That's why I decided to also take pictures and videos with my phone.

SAMSUNG Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G Factory Unlocked Android Cell Phone 256GB US Version Smartphone Pro-Grade Camera 8K Video 108MP High Res, Phantom Black

Those pictures though are meant for quickly sharing on my Instagram, Facebook, and sometimes Twitter. You can add me to these accounts. The only difference is probably the zooming capability. Another feature of the P950 is being able to use the Raw format for your pictures.

I read that the P950 is using the same type of small phone camera sensor. Maybe, that's why some wish that Nikon would add a better sensor for any future Nikon P1100? I also hope, it'll come with better low light capability. That would complete an all-rounder DSLR with high zooming.

Nikon Z 6II FX-Format Mirrorless Camera Body w/NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S, Black

I'm intrigued with the Nikon Z 6II FX-Format Mirrorless Camera's claim of low light capability. Why can't they put this into the P950? Of course, the P950 was only meant for wildlife and watching birds. But, like I said, everyone loves an all-rounder.

Talking about better cameras, I'm also intrigued by how good the zooming capability of the Samsung S21 Ultra 5G. Which claims 100x Space zoom. I actually tried taking airplane videos on my Note 10+. It's only able to 10x zoom. But, I managed to zoom to the words inscribed on the side when it was a little near.

Nikon COOLPIX P950

I just did a search on youtube and yes, the S21 Ultra 100x zoom is pretty awesome. How cool is that? They finally, make a mobile phone with a camera that can zoom to the freaking moon. And, the pictures are pretty sharp too. Does that make my P950 redundant?

Definitely, if you can do all the things a typical DSLR can do. The best thing about the camera phone is that you can also use it for other stuff. It's already like a mini-computer. The size is also a big factor as you can literally put it inside your pocket. I can't put my P950 inside my pocket can I?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G | Factory Unlocked Android Cell Phone | 256GB Storage | US Version Smartphone Tablet | 2-in-1 Refined Design, Flex Mode | Mystic Bronze

I've been wanting to get the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. It's basically a tablet phone that you can fold in half. If it has the S21 Ultra 100x zoom camera, it'll be perfect. For example, as a Youtuber, I can take a video of the moon, un-fold the phone, and edit the video in tablet mode. Which is much better.

The Samsung Z Fold could be the next evolution of the mobile phone computer. The all-in-one powerful computer that fits in your pocket. For the moment, I'm still happy with my Samsung Note 10+ and using my P950 for that extra zooming capability.

Pictures above were taken using my Samsung Note 10+. I didn't do any editing. Usually, you can edit them before uploading to Instagram or Facebook. For my camera, I've actually bought a UV filter. Which supposedly will make my picture color more pronounced.

Watch my beach videos and pictures taken with my Samsung Note 10+ camera here. You can also watch the ones taken with my Nikon Coolpix P950 here. It was pretty fun to be able to zoom at far-off objects with my camera. Subscribe to my channel for more vids and pictures!

My Razer Phone - FAIL!?

Razer Phone-120 Hz Ultra Motion Display-65GB Memory-8GB RAM-Dual Camera-Dual Front-Facing Speakers

Hey guys,

Check it out!

I've sold my trusty old iphone 7 + and got myself the Razer Phone Chinese New Year (CNY) special edition. I didn't like the latest iPhone 8 or iPhone X (xpensive?) design. Although, they are more powerful then my iphone 7.

It's also been some time, since, I've bought an android phone. That's why I decided to go with Razer. Razer are having discounts offer and I got myself the tempered glass screen protector for free and the hammerhead earpiece for half the price. Awesome deals!

Now, the horror report. After, I did my unboxing, I put my microsd and sim card to the mini tray which is provided for you on the phone. I then, switched on the phone. It all seems well and I followed the ritual setup. But, it all began to seem meddlesome, cumbersome and slow for me.

I even had to restart the phone couple of time, because I didn't know which one to choose. Why should I signed in to Google or Razer. Can't it wait until I'm into the system?

I was already feeling a little frustrated and agitated with the procedure. It seems to be installing stuff without asking me or already pre-installing games. Maybe, they thought, I'll want to immediately try out their new booster system. NOT!

After finally, finishing on the setting up, I decided to test out the apps. Lo and behold, it all doesn't work. It keep giving me the 'not responding' crap, again and again. Even the camera doesn't want to turn on. I had to force close it and try opening the app couple of time. By this time, I was already missing my iphone 7+!

Next, went to the Play Store and even the play store app gave me the 'not responding' notification. Bleh. It took me couple of hours to download all the usual social media apps that I've been using on my iphone. Yes! Hours!!

I've always dislike android. People, been telling me, they have improved the software. But, this just proved, nothing have changed. At the same time, I'm not really sure if it's the OS or Razer phone that's causing the problem. The negativity of the android software is really pulling it down.

The only other mobile phone OS that I like beside iOS are the Blackberry OS 10. Which, I really loved, when I had the q10. I'm really thinking of returning the Razer phone. But, I'm lazy and I'm hoping it might just be the software. Most people, seem to give it grave reviews.

After making the above video, I decided to reset the phone. I'm thinking, somewhere I might have f-up the setup and updating. This time, it seems a little easier and faster. Although, the Google play store are still doing some 'completing setup' crap.

I tried testing out again the pre-installed camera app and yes, it still didn't want to open up and just froze. Stupid phone. I might have to use a different app that actually works. I tried re-downloading whatsapp and the playstore gave me the 'not responding' notification yet again. Ahhh!!

I'll have to find a work around all these problem and try make this phone work like my iphone 7+. Not sure, how long before I give up on it. Granted, this is Razer first foray into the mobile world. And just like the first iphone, there are kinks that they would have to work at.

If you're thinking of getting the Razer phone, just be aware about the problem I've been having with the phone. It might be the phone that I've got or that android OS still suckz. Anyway, I'll be looking out for the latest iPhone iteration. Heard, that there'll be two new versions in 2018!

For the moment, I'm stuck with Razer phone and android. Bleh :p

*Update: Every pre-installed apps seem to be working fine after I reset it. Still testing out!
