Raspberry pi 3 and arduino security camera robot

4M Smart Robot Science Kit, STEM

Hey guys,

Check it out!

I'm having fun tinkering with raspberry pi 3 and the picamera. Watch my demo video!

If you also have an arduino, you can even use it combined with the pi. My picamera are connected to my raspberry pi while the servo are controlled by arduino. I've been googling and checking out sample python code and finally decided to try it out.

If you want to learn how to control the picamera using python then click here. For controlling, arduino servo using python, check out this site. Remember, to change the "ser.port = 'COM4'" to your own arduino port. This code include the "gui" controller. Pretty handy.

In my video, I used the arduino sample sweep motion code to let the camera move from 0 to 180 degrees both sides. This way, the camera can get a full picture of my room. If you used it as a security camera, you can even get a full view of your front house. A cheap diy security camera!

You can code the picamera to take video or picture. Can even use sensor that will activate the camera if there's movement around or inside your house. But, I haven't learn that part yet. If you use ssh, you can even watch the video stream on your phone. I've been using VNC viewer to access my pi.

I'm really into learning python now. Playing with raspberry pi and even arduino have helped in applying what I have learned. A couple month back (last year), I downloaded the free python software, but I didn't know head or tail and how to use it.

Now, I've learned enough to build my own smart car robot. I even thought, it'll be hard but, it was actually fun. Of course, in the new year, I want to learn more. I still haven't build my own quadcopter yet. Just need to get the parts. I've also been looking at other products like the BBC Micro:Bit.

Looks like fun to learn using micropython and javascripts block. You can even build a smart robot with it. But you'll need a motor shield for it. You might want to check out the products offering by Kitronik. BBC Micro:Bit currently are very popular in the U.K!

I'll definitely get myself a beaglebone blue. It's for my quadcopter project. A little troublesome, because they don't have any drone kit to go with the beaglebone blue. I'm still looking around for anything I like. If only, I get a sponsor. There're so many things, I want to try out. :p

Ozobot Evo Starter Pack (Titanium Black)

From color-coding to advanced programming, this smart and social robot will have kids exploring the imaginative side of robotics while connecting with friends through OzoChat.

Anyway, don't forget to watch my video and subscribe to my blog and youtube channel!

Happy computing!
