So, I've only got my JAVA Veloce road bike for almost two weeks and already I've stickers bomb it. Can't help myself. I actually bought the stickers for my folding bike. Which I've owned since last year. Yes, it's kinda new too.

I recently got into cycling again after getting a folding bike for commuting to work. My new workplace is pretty near my home. It's a no-brainer to cycle to work instead of wasting my time waiting for the bus. I also saved some travel fares and get to exercise.

Well, one big reason is that I wanted to get rid of my big tummy and get back my six-packs. Got tired of everyone telling me I'm fat. I'm not fat, just my err..tummy is big. The problem is, my workplace is too near my house and it's not enough to get slim just by cycling.

I needed to control and watch what I eat. The good news is I've actually lost some weight. From 76kg to now 68kg. I'm having a problem going down to 67kg. If I can break that barrier, I might be able to get back to my 63-65kg old self.

It is kinda funny because I'm not young and reaching the big 50 soon. Even everyone is surprised and asks why only now that I become interested in cycling. Well, you're never too old to go cycling. In fact, I feel kinda happy whenever I ride my bike.

I love my mountain bike and love more my new Java Veloce road bike. Every time, I ride it, I wanna go as fast as I can. But, I take my time when I rode my mountain bike and become more adventurous. Like cycling on the grass or on dirt paths.

My colleague told me to get an e-bike. They're interesting but as I've said earlier, I wanted to exercise, and getting an e-bike will only make me lazier. One of my colleagues has one and he used it to work part-time as a Grab food delivery.

I won't mind getting an e-bike if I'm like him doing part-time. You get to places faster and with less energy. Of course, I can do it with my road bike too but I'm more into leisure than work. I love going on long rides to national parks enjoying nature and taking pictures with my Nikon P950.

I'm basically in half retirement mode. I cycle for fun and only work just to pay the basic utility bills. With my bikes, I can get some exercise and visit places that I've never been to. I didn't even know there were rivers I can cycle along and windy beaches where I can relax just by cycling.

Red Bull is one of my favorite energy drinks. Though, I try not to drink too much of them. One of the reasons I have their decal stickers. I also love Gatorade where they seem to make my nightly cramps disappear. By the way, I also put decal stickers on my thermal flask water bottle. 

I prefer a thermal flask water bottle because I want to keep my drinks cold or hot much longer. On longer rides, I'll also bring my cycling 2L water bladder bag as my main drink. If you like bike packing that bladder bag will be useful to carry more water.

Finally! I did it. I changed my mountain bike handlebar to a road bike drop bar. Had trouble with the shipping and even had to re-order a different type that doesn't include the stem. I decided to re-use my older bike stem but only discovered that the drop bar clamp diameter size is much smaller.

I had already fit the drop bar brake levers and even tape it up but had to take it off again as I decided to use a modified PVC pipe as a stem shim. Crude, but it works. I can always buy a real shim later but since it works. Lol!

I've never owned or ridden a road bike. To me, it's only for those professional riders. Of course, that's not true. There are people that prefer them. It does look cool with the drop bar. I actually thought of getting one. Even though, I already have a foldable mountain bike. 

That got me thinking. What if I just change the handlebar and try it out if it's suitable for me? I have a slipped disc and those riding positions would certainly make me cry in pain the next morning. I'm still curious though and that's why I decided to try this drop bar project.

I saw a youtube video that someone had already done the same thing. Changing his bike handlebar to a drop bar. Of course, he only re-used his bike brakes and shifter setup. I decided to buy a drop-bar brake lever but really not sure about the shifter.

I actually already bought a Shimano thumb shifter thinking of changing from the twisting type that originally came with my mountain bike. Now, I just put it on the drop bar. It will be easier if I want to change to my normal bike handlebar again. I don't have to keep changing.

I don't have any friends or know anyone that's used to riding a road bike. I've already set everything up but I want some input on how to make it better. Maybe, I'm not used to riding using a drop bar but it feels kinda weird and 'wrong'. 

Okay, it's not exactly a road bike. That's the whole point. I wanted a drop bar that's on a mountain bike. I use my bike mostly on the road to work and go to national parks or beaches. Sometimes, I feel like wanting to bunker down and just cycle straight and fast.

If you're saying why don't I just get a road bike? Because I'm more a mountain bike rider. And, like I've said I have slipped disc. Riding using a drop bar isn't really ideal for me. But, I wanted to try it anyway on a mountain bike with full suspension.

It's definitely something different. That's why I went through the hassle of changing my handlebar. When I tried it yesterday, I tried to be as upright as possible. But, I also try to go down. Be careful not to hurt my back or I won't be able to go to work.

Check out my vid and picture above. Considering it's my first try, not bad at all. Yeah, I make mistakes but it's a learning process. I'll be testing it and seeing how it differs from a handlebar when I go to work next week. Pretty interesting aye?

Bought a colorful bike pedal extender and fit it yesterday. Test it for a bit and actually feel really comfortable. I actually bought it because I bought a new red color kickstand and it'll hit the back of my crocs while pedaling.

Now, I don't have to worry about hitting the kickstand again. Also, sometimes I had problems finding the pedal when starting off. It's because the new pedal that I've changed is kinda a bit small from the original. It feels weird at first but I got used to it really quickly.

Whenever I post new bicycle parts that I've bought and fit on my bike, there'll always be some smart ass disliking it. They'll comment it's a waste or say shit that to me isn't true. Heck, some even say, my bike is cheap and not worth buying.

First of all, yes, my foldable mountain bike is cheap. That's why I bought it. It's affordable to me and I like buying parts and changing them. It's only recently that I found a workplace that is close to my home and riding also helps my fitness and health as a whole.

I also like DIY-ing and learning the process of bike maintenance at the same time. I'm thinking of changing my fork and crankset. Although I haven't done it before, it'll be good to learn from the experience, even if it's a bad one.

That's why I don't really care about the bad comments on my youtube channel video. I do what I like and just because I did something wrong, I can't learn from it. It's called the school of hard knocks. You learn better from the real-world experience than just reading or commenting about it.

I've never owned a road bike. Been thinking if I should get one. But, I have slipped disc so, I worry that I'll have a problem riding it. I bought a stem extender for my mountain bike because it actually hurts my back when riding. Making it a little higher feels better too.

Being me, I'm too curious and if I don't try it, I'll never know. I'll be thinking about it day and night. Hence, I bought a drop bar and going to change it on my mountain bike when it finally arrives. I've already bought the brake lever, wrappers, etc.

I think it'll be an interesting bike with a drop bar and mountain bike design. I don't know anything about the shifters so, I'll just be using the normal standard one available. I'll make it work somehow. I'm doing this because sometimes when I ride, I feel like bunking down using a drop bar.

When I'm on a rough road or pathway, a handlebar is much more comfortable and better controlled. Like I've said, I've never ridden a road bike or used a drop bar, so I'm not sure if I'll be comfortable using them. The good thing is that it's easy to switch.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll be riding my bike to work with the new pedal extender and I can test how good it is. I did a quick test after fitting it and it does feel good. I'll know more when cycling to and fro from home to work. I always feel excited when I've changed new bike parts. Lol!

I've been busy and resting after getting my Coronavirus Covid-19 vaccine booster shot. I didn't do any weights training or go out for a long cycling trip. I only cycle from home to work and vice versa. At least maintaining some kind of fitness.

I'm not a professional rider and I only cycle for keeping myself fit and enjoying riding around the country to enjoy nature or interesting places. I haven't used public transport for a couple of months. In this pandemic or endemic that's actually a good thing. I guess.

I've also been pimping my foldable mountain bike. Buying bike parts and accessories that I like. I find it actually kinda relaxing doing work on my own bike. You definitely need the tools though. Get a bike tool kit set before you decide to do anything on it.

My ride is a cheap foldable mountain bike. On my youtube video, there are some comments that disapprove of my purchase. One even told me I'm better off walking than buying it. I beg to differ. Yeah, it is cheap. Why would I buy an expensive bike just for cycling to work?

I actually bought a folding bike for riding to work and I had a horrible time using it. I just started cycling again and I was already feeling tired and the bike felt heavy. I was wondering if it's because of the tires. It was only when I bought a new pump that I finally enjoy riding it.

I finally managed to cycle up my personal "slope of hell". After over two months or so, I might have also improved my leg strength and fitness level. But, it was really when I bought and change to my current mountain bike that it gets more comfortable and faster.

My mountain bike is the cheap type made in China. Although I'm happy with it, I've been watching videos and checking out expensive bikes made in Europe and America. I don't have that much money to buy. They cost 3-4 months or maybe more of anyone's paycheck. Lol.

My pimped ride - Folding Mountain bike

I'm waiting for my bike camera bag to arrive so that I can hang it on my handlebar instead of my camera backpack. I already have a backpack for carrying my waterbag and other loose items. Since I bought my mountain bike, I'm really enjoying cycling again.

Also, I get to cycle to places that I never thought even existed. Beautiful nature that exists in sometimes secluded areas that we concrete dwellers didn't even know about. Isn't it funny that you've been living for years in a country and didn't even know that such beauty is just around the corner?

So, I finally did it. I planned to go cycling today on the 1st Jan 2022 to a nearby park and discovered that I can also visit other parks via a road connector that's only for cyclists/walking/running. Despite the still ongoing pandemic, there are surprisingly many other people too.

Well, kinda obvious as it's the holiday. I didn't even notice if people were wearing masks. There are parents with their kids walking or cycling in each separate lane. This connector is really useful as all you have to do is follow the cycling path to every park in the country.

Using an app, I managed to know how far and how fast I'm cycling. I can read the info on my losing calories etc. I believe, I cycled a total of around 24km today. I'm surprised, to be able to cycle that far without having leg cramps or giving up.

I'm thinking that because I've been cycling to and fro to work and home every day that actually helps me build my fitness. Even though, it's not that far. I've even been losing around 1kg per week. It isn't that bad considering, I haven't been exercising for a long time.

In fact, I have a slipped disc and two bad knees. Forget about running, cycling is the best low-impact exercise for me. I did feel a slight pain on both my thighs when I was returning from my sis house. It was also raining. The bicycle felt heavy but I persevered.

Right now, I don't really feel any kind of effect on my body. But, I'm pretty sure, tomorrow I'll definitely feel some sores here and there. If I don't, then I might have improved my overall fitness. It's good that I've been starting slow and don't try to overdo it.

I'm not getting any younger and the body I had when I was young and in the military is vastly different. That's why I started light and only add to my training bits by bits. I also set up my own home gym with an exercise bench and weights to improve my physique. But, most importantly get my 6-packs back.

I'm happy that in the last 3 months of last year, I managed to lose some weight even though not much. At least whatever I'm doing it's working. I'm also happy that now, I can cycle from park to park and further away without worrying about traffics.

I really had fun and enjoyed riding my folding mountain bike. In one of my youtube videos, there were some people who said that it's not a good bike. But, I'm loving it. Yes, it's cheap. That's precisely why I bought it. Of course, if I had the money or a pro, I'll definitely get a more expensive bike.

I'm also having fun changing some of my bicycle parts and adding accessories. So far, I've changed my bike pedal and seat. I've bought a new bike handlebar, grips, brake levers, and stem. Some of them have already arrived but some haven't. Can't wait to fit 'em all. Pimping my mountain bike!

I decided to get myself a folding mountain bike because my current folding bike, for some reason isn't suitable for me. From the start, I had a problem with it. Granted, I haven't ridden a bike for decades. But, I slowly got my own rhythm.

I had a problem with the gears while riding and keep changing until even the chain came off. Thank goodness, it's pretty easy to put it back and I still arrived to work in time. I also had a problem with the tires. But, once, I bought a tire pump, from then on, the ride gets easier and faster.

Frankly, I always thought that a mountain bike is much better for me. I used to have one but I gave it away to my cousin's husband a long time ago. I wanted a bike because recently, I got a job near my house. I wanted to save traveling costs and also try to get my fitness again. 

If you have been reading a few of my earlier posts, I've been wanting to get my six-packs back. I'm tired of everyone joking about my big tummy. I also thought it's time to get back some kind of fitness for myself. I don't want to be old and fat.

Finally, I got my Shimano bike gear folding mountain bike and I'm really loving it. From the first test ride to using it to and fro to work, it really felt like home. The gear shift works pretty well and I actually arrive at work much faster with less energy or rather sweats.

The thing is, the folding bike that I've been using has actually helped me lose around 1kg. I used to weigh around 74.7 kg. Yesterday, it was 73.4kg. Not much, but it shows that cycling to work, it does help me lose weight. Albeit, slowly.

I'm pretty happy when I see that I'd lose a bit of weight. That means, my bike investment has paid off. My target is to get my weight down below 70kg. I used to weigh around 63-65kg before I stop doing any kind of exercise because of my back slip disc.

The most important thing for me is to get the old six-packs that I worked so hard for in my school gym almost 29 years ago. Yup, a pretty long time ago. I was also preparing physically before joining the military. That's why even though at my age now, I wish to at least stay lean and fit again.

Another thing about cycling is the low impact on the knees. I have both bad knees. My right knee is starting to act up. Although, my left is much worse. I bought a knee brace the other day and tried it today to work. It actually helps support my knees when cycling and working.

I thought it'll be too tight and uncomfortable. But, I actually forget that I was wearing it. I only bought the knee brace for my left knee. Since it helps, I plan to get for my right. I've already started recommending to my friend and sis if they'll be interested.

Well, I'm really glad that I bought the folding mountain bike. Although, I have bad comments about it on my youtube video. Who cares bout the haters. The most important thing is that I'm benefitting from the bike and I'm really enjoying my ride. Loving it!
