USING WEBCAM TO RECORD VIDEOS AND TAKE PICTURES ON POWKIDDY X18!

GPD XD Plus [Official distributor, Latest HW & Most Stable Update] Foldable Handheld Game Consoles 5" Touchscreen, Android 7.0 Fast Mediatek MT8176 Hexa-core 2.1GHz CPU, 4GB RAM/32GB ROM

Hey guys,

Check it out!

Well, I finally got the USB Webcam to work on my Powkiddy X18. It's not without a problem though. It doesn't easily connect and I discovered that I need to open and close the app or go to the setting to change the permission. Either way, as long as it works.

I also found out later that the USB Webcam, an Android app that I like couldn't record with sound. After fed up with messing around with the settings, I tried other apps from the Google Play Store and found one that can. And, it's even free without any pesky ads.

I thought that it might be because of the OTG cable at first, not being good enough. But, when I tried again, it works. I still have to open and close the app though. Kinda a hassle. But, like I said, as long as it finally works. Lol. You have to keep trying if it doesn't work the first time around.

My USB webcam is a pretty cheap one. Cost me only around $10 bucks after redeeming the voucher. If you intend to get a good picture or video, you might want to invest in the expensive and smaller one. I'm only interested in using it for video calls on my PC and testing on the Powkiddy X18.

I really like the Powkiddy X18. I didn't really look at it at first because I thought it's just another Android and Retro gaming console. It's when I realized that I can install Termux or Ubuntu (via the Andronix app) on it that I become interested.

The clamshell form factor makes it looks like a mini laptop. Actually, it's almost the same exact copy of the New Nintendo 3DS XL. But, it doesn't have a camera, a second screen, and a stylus. The X18, Android OS flexibility is what I've always wanted on my old NN3DS XL.

I'm wondering if I can use a Bluetooth or wifi security camera to connect to my X18. That will be cool. I'm also thinking of linking it to my raspberry pi 3 car and using the controller to control it. Having the remap button app will be nifty to use.

I haven't played with my raspberry pi for a while now. It might be handy now to try and work with the Powkiddy X18. One thing, I haven't tried out is creating my own drone. Not having the parts is making it difficult for me to try it. But, would have been interesting to be able to control it with the X18.

The Powkiddy X18 and the GPD XD Plus is using Android O.S. hopefully, they'll build something as close as the current high-end mobile phone. With all the bells and whistles. The difference with the mobile phone is of course the integrated controller.

At the end of the day, you can always go back to playing Android or retro games on it. Having an integrated controller means you don't have to carry extra stuff around. One thing for sure, as much as I like being able to link an external controller or triggers, having something like the X18 is much better.

I find myself being lazy to add those accessories to play games on my mobile phone. That's why the X18 with its integrated controller is much better and less of a hassle. Now, I'm hoping for an upgraded version with a camera so I can easily do video calls, take some pictures or videos. All on my cheap X18!

USB WEBCAM Unboxing - Test On PC And Powkiddy X18?

1080P Business Webcam with Dual Microphone & Privacy Cover, 2021 [Upgraded] NexiGo USB FHD Web Computer Camera, Plug and Play, for Zoom/Skype/Teams Online Teaching, Laptop MAC PC Desktop

Hey guys

Check it out!

I finally received my USB Webcam and did an unboxing video. Check it out here. Frankly, I don't expect much from the camera that claims to be 1080P. Since I bought it for only around $10 bucks with redeems voucher.

I was planning to use it for video-call via Whatsapp on my computer and testing if it'll work on my Powkiddy X18 Android/Retro gaming console. I bought this no-brand webcam that will auto-install the general USB webcam driver on Microsoft Windows PC.

The camera also comes with a noise-canceling mic which didn't work at first. I tried video-call my sis and it didn't recognize the mic. I thought I had to install or update the driver. Instead, I decided to try restarting the PC, and voila, it works!

The camera didn't come with any software. I tried it with an old software I downloaded years back. It kinda works but in the end, I just use the Microsoft general camera app. The video kinda lags when I used the 1920 X 1080P but becomes smooth when using the 640 X 360 video format.

When I was recording the video with my iPad pro 10.5, I realized my iPad camera is much better than the cheap webcam. Much sharper and cleaner. I guess if you want anything better, you'll have to be willing to cough up the dough.

Anyway, I'm really interested in testing the camera on my Powdiddy X18. I read the manual that the USB Webcam supposed to also work on Android. That's a plus. Although, I'm pretty sure any latest USB webcam will work. I already tried my old webcam and it didn't. Part of the reason I decided to get a new one.

You can download any USB Webcam Android apps on the Google Play Store but currently, only one work for me. Also, I tried my OTG cable and it didn't work. It works once I change to another type of OTG cable with multiple USB connectors that also have a power connector.

I'm not sure if the camera needs the power to work. As maybe, the X18 battery power isn't strong enough? I'm trying it again after this post. The important thing for me is that I have proved my point that a USB Webcam can be connected to an Android device and especially on the X18.

One thing though is that Whatsapp on my Powkiddy X18 doesn't recognize the webcam. So, I can't use it to video call on my X18. It would have been awesome if I can use any video call app. Other than that, the webcam can be used to record videos and take pictures albeit not so good ones.

Now, you can use your X18 or GPD XD Plus to take videos or pictures on the go. You might want to get something smaller and that can be clip on the small screen. If you want better videos and pictures, you'll want to get a better webcam than the cheap one I bought.

Of course, it'll be great if in the future iteration of the Android/Retro gaming devices comes with 4G/5G and a front/back camera. I'm sure, the price can be kept lower than an NN3DS XL. I like the fact, you can also use it as a mini Android laptop. Just add a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse!
