Earlier in the day, someone asked me if I could help set up a smart mirror
. I was a little surprised, as I've heard about it but, wasn't really into it. I thought, it would be a bit complicated, furthermore, you'll need parts.

I did have some ideas on it. Like, buying a smart Tv
and just vertically install it on the wall. I saw, this at one of the offices where I was working. You'll then just get a webcam and position it where you can get a front view of the area.When people walk up to it. It'll be as if they're looking at a mirror. And, you can also look up stuff like the weather, news etc. Pretty straightforward. As I did more researched, I realized, most people either just used a two way mirror
or a one way see through acrylic mirror
.

For a two way mirror, you'll just need to put a monitor behind it. There are those that use raspberry pi 3
or pi zero w
as it's small and also powerful enough to install basic app to show your news or whatever. Personally, I'd prefer just open up my yahoo main page.If you're savvy enough and up for more adventure, you can even buy a rpi camera
and sensor
to control the 'smart mirror'. You'll need to install several application and even edit codes that you can find online from open sources.

If you're using a raspberry pi 3 b+
, which is the latest version, you can also get a 7" touchscreen display
instead of a big screen tv. Position it at any corner of the two way mirror and you'll be able to access information or watch youtube while brushing your teeth!Definitely, a fun project if you're up for it!

Not everyone, into diy project. It's gonna be interesting to see this type of technology and you'll probably see more company offering customized smart mirror. Just like the smart tv!
