Learning to create your own game with scratch is really fun and easy. You don't have to create complex games to make a good game. Just think of how popular the flappy bird game are. It's pretty simple but it created such a buzz that everyone are cloning it!
It's always good to start learning to code when you're at a young age. With scratch, it makes more easier to learn the fundamentals. Check out some of the books available on learning to create fun stuff with scratch!

Definitely, a great fun to be able to create your own game. I had wanted to create my own game for a long time and scratch have made it easier. By the way, it's also fun to create or draw your own 'sprite' or character in games.
I'm not an artist, and I also don't have any electronic drawing tools. But, using simple drawing programs, you can draw your own spaceships or cars and see it moves via coding with scratch. See, how your kids get excited when it actually works.
Let their imaginations run wild with scratch!
