Nikon's NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ Lens: A Game-Changer for Video Creators

Nikon has announced the development of the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ, a standard zoom lens designed specifically for full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras with the Nikon Z mount. This lens marks Nikon's first venture into full-frame, video-centric optics, signaling a significant shift towards catering to video creators.

Key Specifications:

  • Focal Length: 28-135mm
  • Maximum Aperture: f/4
  • Zoom Mechanism: Power Zoom (PZ)
  • Compatibility: Full-frame/FX-format Nikon Z-mount cameras

The power zoom feature allows for smooth and precise zooming, which is essential for professional video recording. While detailed specifications are yet to be released, the lens is expected to offer superior optical performance tailored for videography needs.

Ideal Users:

This lens is for video creators, documentary filmmakers, and solo videographers who require a versatile zoom range with consistent aperture. Its design facilitates efficient recording, making it a valuable tool for small crews and individual content creators.

Compatibility:

The NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ is compatible with Nikon's full-frame mirrorless cameras, including the Nikon Z8. Pairing it with the Z8 would provide a robust setup for high-quality video production.

Release Date and Pricing:

Nikon has not announced an official release date or pricing for the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens. However, considering its development status, more information is expected in the coming months. The rumor is that it'll come out in April for over $2500+.

Bundle Deals with RED Cameras:

Following Nikon's acquisition of RED Cinema earlier this year, there is speculation about potential bundle deals featuring the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens and RED cameras. However, no official announcements have been made regarding such packages.

Anamorphic Versions and Future Cinema Lenses:

There is no information on whether Nikon plans to release anamorphic of NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ. However, Nikon's recent focus on video-centric products suggests the possibility of more cinema lenses in the future.

Considering the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ for Your Videography Needs:

Given my interest in videography and ownership of the Nikon Z8, the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ could be a valuable addition to my gear. Its versatile zoom range and video-centric features would complement my existing lenses, such as the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm and the 35mm manual focus lens by 7Artisans. Investing in this lens could enhance my video production capabilities, especially for my YouTube channel.
